Tucson officer seriously injured in crash; driver suspected of DUI

A Tucson police officer was sent to the hospital after a car accident near North Stone Avenue and Glenn Street.

At around 3:20 a.m. Thursday, an officer responded to a report of a man lying in the road. The man was found north of the intersection, possibly related to a car crash, according to Tucson police. The officer put his patrol car north of the intersection with emergency lights on.

According to police, the officer was then hit by another car, but was able to call dispatch about the accident.

The officer was found with serious injuries and was taken to a hospital, police said. The driver who hit the officer was arrested on suspicion of DUI, police said.

The identities of the man found in the road, the officer who was injured and the driver who was arrested were not released.

The officer was in stable condition as of Thursday late morning, police said.
