Tucson police fatally shoot man during aggravated assault investigation

Tucson officers fatally shot a man they say was suspected of being involved in an aggravated assault and armed at a home near Oracle and Grant roads on Sunday.

According to Tucson police, officers were investigating a report of an aggravated assault around 7 p.m. and learned the suspect, a man, was armed at a residence in the area.

Officers arrived and told the man to exit.

Police said the man eventually left the home, and officers shot at him. The man was declared dead on scene.

No officers were injured.

Tucson police detectives said the man was armed and "discharged his firearm in the direction of officers who were at the scene."

The Pima Regional Critical Incident Team was on scene conducting the criminal investigation on the shooting, which the Pima County Sheriff's Department is leading.

Members of the Tucson Office of Professional Standards were also conducting an internal investigation.

The Pima Regional Critical Incident Team is expected to release more information as it becomes available.
