Tuesday’s boys’ rewind: No. 1 Myers Park, No. 16 Ardrey Kell to meet for 4th time

Myers Park and Ardrey Kell both won first round N.C. 4A high school basketball playoff games Tuesday.

The reward? The teams will play Friday for the fourth time this season and for the second time in a week. The game is at Myers Park.

Ardrey Kell got a buzzer-beater from Brett Freeman to beat Southwest Guilford 70-68.

Myers Park, the reigning N.C. 4A champion, beat Mallard Creek 82-45. The Mustangs led 33-8 after the first quarter.

Myers Park, No. 1 in The Sweet 16 and nationally ranked, is trying to become the first N.C. 4A team to repeat as state champion since Winston-Salem Reynolds won three in a row from 2000-02.

No Mecklenburg County team has repeated as 4A state champion since West Charlotte did it in 1991 and ‘92.

Myers Park has beaten No. 16 Ardrey Kell three times this season but needed a last-second shot from junior star Sadiq White to beat the Knights, 52-50, in the SoMECK conference tournament championship Friday.
