District 10-3A

Edgewood 4, West Shore 1

MELBOUNRE-- The Red Wolves defeated West Shore, 4-1, to win the district 10-3A championship and keep their undefeated record.

Edgewood jumped out to a quick start in the game and went into halftime with a 2-0 lead over the Wildcats after Olivia Bolin and Andrea Toledo scored goals in the first half. Getting out to a quick start was something head coach Eddie Al-Shihabi said the team planned to do coming into the game.

"We played them for the Cape Coast Conference and they took us almost to the distance, we finally scored a goal with about 16 minutes left," Al-Shihabi said. "So, we said we need to get it from the start and go hard. We had a game plan that we worked on yesterday and we had a very good practice and it reflected today."

In the second half, Edgewood extended its lead after Nina Lopez scored with 25 minutes left in the game. Elizabeth Corrigan scored the Red Wolves' fourth goal two minutes later.

London Burke got the Wildcats on the board when she scored a goal with less than seven minutes left in the game.

This was the third meeting between the teams this season and Al-Shihabi said the two sides know each other well at this point in the season.

"They have a lot of quality players and most of their players play with my players in club, " Al-Shihabi said. "We play them a lot, so I think there is a lot of familiarity between the two teams,"

With the state playoffs starting next week, there is a chance the Red Wolves and Wildcats could battle for a fourth time this season.

The Wildcats close out their regular season with a record of 11-6-0. Edgewood finishes the regular season with a 15-0-0 record.
