Tuesday’s girls’ basketball rewind: Central Cabarrus rolls past South Rowan
The Central Cabarrus girls’ high school basketball team won its third straight game Tuesday, beating South Rowan, 68-48, on the road.
Central Cabarrus (11-7, 7-3 South Piedmont 3A) led 20-12 after the first quarter and 28-18 at halftime.
The Vikings suffered a three-game losing streak in late December into January, but since then have found their stride, winning five of six.
On Tuesday, Kyra Lewis had 23 points, seven steals and five rebounds. Teammate Jahnae Duncan added 16 points, eight rebounds, six assists and six steals for Central Cabarrus.
South Rowan (3-13, 1-8) was led by 10 points from Kynlee Dextraze.
Monday/Tuesday #BIG5 top performers
Kaiya Bond, West Cabarrus: In Monday’s 66-52 win over A.L. Brown, Bond, a sophomore, had 26 points, five rebounds and five steals.
Lauren Farrell, Cox Mill: In a 56-33 win over South Iredell, Farrell had 20 points, nine rebounds and four steals.
Chai James, Olympic: In Monday’s 46-31 win over Berry, James had a career-high 16 points and 11 rebounds.
Jaida McClure, Providence Day: In a 59-47 win over Charlotte Country Day, McClure was 18-of-19 from the free throw line and scored a career-high 35 points.
Blanca Thomas, Charlotte Catholic: In a 59-33 win over 1A state power Bishop McGuinness, the UNC recruit had 24 points, 13 rebounds and five blocks.
