Tuesday Morning on Aiken's Southside scheduled to close

Feb. 16—Aiken's Tuesday Morning probably won't be open for business much longer.

It is on the list of discount home goods stores that the Tuesday Morning Corporation plans to close in 2023.

The local Tuesday Morning retail outlet is at 2529 Whiskey Road in the Aiken Exchange shopping center.

There were "Store Closing," "All Sales Final" and "Take 10% Off Original Ticket Price" signs on display at the store Wednesday.

The five other Tuesday Morning stores in South Carolina on the chopping block are in Charleston at St. Andrews Center, Columbia at Harbison Court, Easley at Town & Country Plaza, Florence at Cashua Place Shopping Center and Mt. Pleasant at Belle Hall Shopping Center.

The Tuesday Morning Corporation, headquartered in Dallas, filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection in a Texas court Tuesday because of the need to restructure its "exceedingly burdensome debt," said Tuesday Morning CEO and Director Andrew Berger in a news release.

Tuesday Morning has asked for the bankruptcy court's approval to shut down more than 260 stores in nearly 40 states.

The company considers those retail outlets to be "unprofitable and underperforming," the news release stated.

In all, the Tuesday Morning chain has more than 460 stores, including those scheduled for closure.

In 2020, the Tuesday Morning Corporation also filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy following disruptions in operations because of the COVID-19 pandemic.

The retailer emerged from bankruptcy in December 2020.
