ASHEVILLE - A brick-and-mortar national retailer has announced plans to close after 49 years in business.

Tuesday Morning, a home décor store, will permanently close all its locations ― a decision that’s come after the company filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection to support reorganization and transformation.

Tuesday Morning, based in Dallas, opened its first store in 1974. The closure includes the company’s 487 stores in 40 states, according to the website.

Tuesday Morning’s inventory contains home textiles, home furnishings, housewares, gourmet food, toys and seasonal décor.

The nationwide closure includes two area stores at 44 Westgate Parkway in Westgate Shopping Center in Asheville and 1800 Four Seasons Blvd. at the Blue Ridge Mall in Hendersonville.

A going-out-of-business sale is underway at select stores that include merchandise, fixtures and equipment. Currently, the stores are offering up to 30% off the lowest ticketed price on merchandise. Managers are to assist with the sale of store fixtures and equipment.

Gift cards and merchandise return gift cards will be honored through May 13.

The return policy has changed for the final days.

“Purchases made after Friday, April 28, 2023 are FINAL SALE and cannot be returned or exchanged,” the company’s website states. “Unused merchandise purchased on or before April 28, 2023 may be returned within 14 days of the purchase date with the original receipt. Merchandise must be in a sellable condition with original packaging. If purchase was made with a Merchandise Return Gift Card, the item may be exchanged but a refund will not be issued.”

Also, returns for more than $250 and purchased via cash or check may be refunded through a corporate check process, the policy states.
