MALVERN 69, WEST MUSKINGUM 60 At Gnadenhutten, the No. 1 seed Hornets took control with a dominating second quarter and won this Division III East district semifinal at Indian Valley High School. Trailing 17-10 after one quarter, Malvern outscored No. 4 seed West Muskingum 24-7 in the second quarter to lead by 10 at the half. Dylan Phillips led Malvern (24-1) with 21 points. No. 4 seed Central (15-9) faces No. 1 seed Norwayne (21-4) in Friday's 7 p.m. district final back at Wooster. No other details were available.
CUYAHOGA HEIGHTS 42, ST. THOMAS AQUINAS 37 Nate Biggers scored 17 points and Braylan McClardy added 11 as the No. 2 seed Red Wolves avoided the upset bid by No. 7 Aquinas in a Division III Northeast 4 district semifinal at Gilmour Academy. The Knights, a regional finalist last year in Division IV, led by as many as 11 points in the first half and went to the break up 22-15. But Cuyahoga Heights outscored Aquinas 16-5 in the third quarter to go ahead. Julius Kimbrough's 18 points led Aquinas (16-9). Cuyahoga Heights (21-3) will make its first district championship appearance since 2018 when it faces No. 3 Smithville in Friday's 7 p.m. final back at Gilmour Academy.
