Tuesday roundup: Nigro leads Louisville past Jackson, Minerva's Costea has career night

BOYS BASKETBALL

LOUISVILLE 68, JACKSON 66 Hayden Nigro poured in a game-high 29 points and Will Aljancic finished with 23 as the Leopards won on the road.

Aljancic hit three 3-pointers and added a team-high six rebounds for Louisville (11-4), which bounced back from a 19-point loss at Marlington on Friday. Nigro, a sophomore, shot 10-of-18 from the floor.

JJ Vaughan led the Polar Bears (8-7) with 18 points. Kevin James finished with 13. Alvin Altman added a team-high six rebounds for Jackson, which has lost three straight games since its double-overtime win against Hoover on Jan. 14.

HOOVER 51, GLENOAK 36 Tanner Ware had a double-double of 16 points and 10 rebounds to lead the Vikings to a Federal League home win.

Elijah Barker added 15 points, seven rebounds and five assists for Hoover (11-4, 5-4).

Ja’Corey Lipkins and Jalen McElroy had nine points each for GlenOak (6-7, 3-5), which played for the first time in 10 days.

The Golden Eagles fell behind 18-6 after the first quarter and could not recover.

McKINLEY 79, PERRY 43 Five McKinley players scored in double figures as the Bulldogs won on the road.

Tra’Sean Foster led the Bulldogs (8-5, 5-3) with 18 points. Dante McClellan finished with 12 points. Jahlil Graham, Jecis Moody and Antonio Williams added 10 apiece.

Joel Brown had 17 points to lead Perry (0-14, 0-8).

The Panthers fell behind 17-9 after the first quarter and could not recover.

MINERVA 55, CARROLLTON 51 Brayden Costea hit seven 3-pointers and scored a career-high 37 points to help the host Lions beat rival Carrollton.

The 37 breaks his previous high of 32 that he set two games ago at Southeast. In between he had 29 against Alliance. This is Costea’s third game of 30 points or more this season.

Jaxon Rinkes had a career-high 27 points to lead the Warriors. Darick Miller had a double-double of 12 points and 10 rebounds.

ALLIANCE 41, CANTON SOUTH 38 K'Vaughn Davis and Diego Allen scored 12 points apiece to lead the Aviators (11-2, 8-1) to the win.

EBC-leading Alliance gained a game on Marlington, which lost at Salem on Tuesday. The Aviators host the Dukes on Friday.

Peyton Karovic finished with a game-high 13 points for South (9-7, 4-4). Brady Noll added 10.

SALEM 53, MARLINGTON 51 Drew Weir scored 17 points as the Quakers upset visiting Marlington in EBC play.

The Quakers (5-11, 3-6) trailed 12-2 after the first quarter and 26-13 at the half before rallying to win.

Ross Davidson added 13 points and Cam Sampson also had 10 points for Salem.

Tommy Skelding led Marlington with 13 points. Connor Evanich had 12 points for the Dukes (12-3, 6-2).

WEST BRANCH 68, LAKE CENTER CHRISTIAN 36 Jaxon Hendershott hit seven 3s and scored a game-high 25 points to lead West Branch (12-2), which raced out to a 33-12 halftime lead and rolled to the easy win.

Dru DeShields finished with 14 points for West Branch. Nick Wilson added 11.

Ethan Bower led Lake Center with 10 points.

EAST CANTON 70, NEWCOMERSTOWN 48 Landen Demos and Luke Riley scored 13 points apiece to help lead the Hornets to the win.

East Canton broke open the game in the second half by outscoring Newcomerstown 40-23.

Caleb Shilling finished with 11 points for the Hornets. Alec Penrod added 10.

MALVERN 84, TUSC. CENTRAL CATHOLIC 71 Michael Minor’s double-double of 29 points and 12 rebounds led the Hornets to the win.

KJ Thomas scored 17 points for Malvern (12-2, 8-0). Dylan Phillips finished with 15. Mitchell Minor added 12.

GARAWAY 69, TUSKY VALLEY 55 Logan Stotzer scored 25 points for Tusky Valley in its road loss.

Alex Roden led Garaway with 24 points. Drew Mullet also had 21 points for the Pirates.
