Tuesday's election winners announced

Nov. 8—Tuesday, Nov. 7, general elections were held in many incorporated Indiana towns and cities.

The following information details results from the contested races that took place in the Daily News' core coverage area.

Decatur County

In Decatur County, just St. Paul and Westport had an election Tuesday.

In St. Paul, the lone contested race was for the office of clerk-treasurer and it featured Republican Cassandra Nicole Jenkins versus Independent Alyssa Hall.

The winner was Hall with 60 votes (55.56%) compared to Jenkins' 48 votes (44.44%).

Decatur County voters in St. Paul cast their ballots at the Bruner Event Center, 102 N. Webster Street.

In Westport, the only contested race was for town clerk-treasurer and it featured Republican Gloria "Atchley" Alumbaugh versus Independent Sandy Lowe.

The winner was Alumbaugh with 140 votes (57.38%) compared to Lowe's 104 votes (42.62%).

Voters were also asked to answer a question regarding whether the town council should continue to be comprised of three council members or if that number should be increased to five.

The vote was 149 yes votes (64.22%) and 83 no votes (35.78%).

Voters in Westport cast their ballots at the Westport Area Community Building in the 200 block of E. Main Street.

Decatur County had a voter turnout of 30.14%, with 355 of 1,178 eligible voters in the two precincts involved casting ballots.

Franklin County

As there were no contested races in Franklin County, the Franklin County Election Board decided they would not have a polling place open for the Batesville City election.

Ripley County

In Ripley County, only Batesville had an election.

The only contested race there was for Batesville City Council District 1 and featured Republican Gerald "Jerry" Ertel versus Democrat Darrick Cox.

The winner was Cox with 96 votes (51.06%) compared to 92 votes for Ertel (48.94%).

District 1 encompasses the eastern part of the city, citizens residing northeast of Ind. 46 from Ind. 229 to Merkel Road and down the west side of Coonhunters Road to CR 1350.

Batesville voters cast their ballots at the Knights of Columbus, 624 Delaware Road.

The election summary report provided to the Daily News for Ripley County did not include voter turnout percentages.

Rush County

In Rush County, only Rushville and Carthage hosted elections.

In Carthage, there were five Republicans and three Democrats seeking five seats on the town council. The Republicans were Kelly Land, Charles Watkins, Maggie Debusk, Jeremy Green and John Abrell; the three Democrats were Jack Howard, Tim Wehr and Elizabeth Norris.

The winners were Green with 72 votes (18.05%), Watkins with 71 votes (17.79%), Abrell with 65 votes (16.29%), Land with 60 votes (15.4%) and Debusk with 55 votes (13.78%).

There was also a contested race for the office of town clerk-treasurer and it featured Republican Rachael Morrow versus Democrat Abbie Wehr.

The winner was Morrow with 80 votes (81.63%); Wehr tallied 18 votes (18.37%).

Voting in Carthage took place at the Ercel Beaver Community Center, at First and Main streets.

In Rushville, there was only one contested race. Voters were asked to choose two at-large representatives for the city council. The choices were Democrat Faryene "Junior" Williams and incumbent Republicans Robert "Bob" Bridges and Ron Gardner.

The winners were Bridges and Gardner, with 370 votes (39.36%) and 310 votes (32.98%) respectively.

Rushville voters cast their ballots at the Rush County Fairgrounds Community Building.

The election summary report provided to the Daily News for Rush County did not include voter turnout percentages.

The posting of all Rush County election results on the county's website was delayed as the result of a clerical error, according to a staff member of the Rush County Clerk's office.

These results have not been certified by the Election Boards in each of the counties involved or by the State of Indiana.

This story only reflects results from contested races; anyone running unopposed was automatically successful.
