Tuesday's high school scores: Morotti lifts Westport to fourth straight victory

WESTPORT — The Westport Wildcats are playing their best baseball of the season.

Visiting Avon got a good taste of that on Tuesday.

The Wildcats won their fourth straight game, winning a close game at home 3-2.

Max Morotti pitched the complete-game win for Westport (8-7), allowing just two hits, an earned run, walking three and fanning 10 batters. He also had a pair of hits and scored a run.

Noah Sowle went 2-for-4 with a triple and scored a run. Nick Arruda chipped in with a pair of hits, scored a run and had an RBI. Owen Boudria finished with a two-run double.

The Wildcats host Diman on Thursday.

Joseph Case 13, Atlantis Charter 0

Joseph Case blanked non-league opponent Atlantis Charter in a mercy-rule contest to clinch a berth in the state tournament.

Ryland Pacheco pitched all five innings for Case (10-6; 5-5 in SCC), allowing just one hit, no runs while striking out eight.

Jake Pontes (double, run scored), Brady Thiboutot (two runs scored) and Cooper Khoury (two RBI) each had a pair of hits in the victory. Adam Jaglowski finished with a double and two RBI.

The Cardinals travel to Wareham while the Tritons (5-8) host Avon on Thursday.

Southeastern 11, Bishop Connolly 6

The Cougars' rally late fell short against Southeastern.

Jayden Sousa went 3-for-4 with a double and two runs scored for Connolly. Nico Chaves had two hits, including a double. James Russell finished with two hits and three RBI.

The Cougars take on West Bridgewater Thursday.

SOFTBALL

Joseph Case 12, Wareham 0

The Cardinals blanked league opponent Wareham in a mercy-rule contest.

Hailey Berube and Emera Marcello combined to give up just three hits while striking out eight batters.

Brooke Perron led the way for Case offensively with three hits, including a double. The Cardinals had 10 hits on the day.

Westport 16, Avon 1

The Wildcats cruised past league opponent Avon.

Mackenzy Ponte collected the win in the circle for Westport (5-9), striking out 11 batters.

Tess Silvia went 4-for-4 with two doubles, a triple, and a home run. Peyton Mahjoory finished with a pair of hits, including a double and a home run.

The Wildcats face Diman on Thursday.

BOYS TENNIS

Durfee 5, Bridgewater-Raynham 0

The Hilltoppers swept all five matches from league opponent Bridgewater-Raynham.

Jorge Beltran (6-0, 6-1) and Chris Panchley (6-3, 6-3) won in straight sets at first and second singles for Durfee (12-3; 5-1 in SEC). Third singles was a forfeit win for the Hilltoppers.

Jack Fitzgerald and Chrispin Sokol won their match at first doubles, 6-0, 6-1 while Jesse Tamba and Colin Fleet won easily at second doubles, 6-1, 6-2.

Durfee travels to Dartmouth on Friday.

Somerset Berkley 4, Seekonk 1

The Raiders took four of five matches from league opponent Seekonk on Tuesday.

Joseph Ramos, Tyler Barros and Zach Costa were all winners during singles competition for SBR (10-4). Tom Rose and Matt Carlesi won at first doubles, 6-2, 6-0.

The Raiders take on Case Thursday following the dedication and naming of the tennis courts.

GIRLS TENNIS

Fairhaven 5, Joseph Case 0

The Cardinals dropped five matches to league opponent Fairhaven.

Case (0-11) hosts Somerset Berkley on Thursday.

Durfee

The Hilltoppers fared well during Monday's All-SEC meet at New Bedford.

Adunoluwa Olubanwo continues to shine for Durfee, winning the discus for the third week in a row. Shakira Cadet broke another school record in the high jump, leaping 5'2½". She also won the 100 meter run and was on the winning 4x400 relay team.

Abby Saunders won the 400 hurdles and Kat Gauvin took first in the 400. Maggie O'Connell also medaled with a first-place finish in the mile.
