Freedom 48, Fox Valley Lutheran 44

APPLETON - In a battle of highly-ranked teams, the Irish turned back a furious rally by the Foxes to remain undefeated in the North Eastern Conference and clinch at least a share of the league title for the fifth consecutive season.

Freedom, the top-ranked team in Division 3 in the latest Associated Press poll, led 30-18 in the second half but a flurry of 3-pointers by FVL, ranked eighth in Division 2, sparked a surge that saw the Foxes lead 36-33 after a trifecta from Lauren Movrich.

The Irish retook the lead and withstood back-to-back jumpers from Emily Jaenke to eke out the win. Kiersten Kriewaldt had a critical rebound off a Freedom miss in the final seconds and Sadie Jarmolowicz buried two free throws to ice the win.

Jarmolowicz had 19 points to lead all scorers with Sydney Bartels adding 16. Jaenke had 16 points to pace Fox Valley Lutheran (18-3, 14-2).

It was the 56th consecutive North Eastern Conference victory for Freedom.

KOHLER - Chloe Vogel poured in 22 points and Emily Vogel added 12 as the Zephyrs jumped out to a 38-20 halftime advantage and never looked back en route to the Big East Conference crossover victory.

St. Mary Catholic moved to 20-1 on the season.

Also scoring in double digits for the Zephyrs was Sienna Anderson with 10 points.

McKenna Holzrichter led the Blue Bombers with 17 points, while Katie Schumacher added 10.

BRILLION - The Lions outscored the Vikings by 11 points in the second half to pull away for the win.

“We played with better energy on defense in the second half and got some steals that led to some transition baskets,” Brillion coach Jeff Capelle said. “We were more efficient and converted both inside and outside on offense in the second half and were well balanced.”

Megan Schuman and Alaina Schwahn both scored 14 points to lead Brillion. Schuman scored all of her points in the second half.

Claire Zipperer led Valders with 30 points.

LITTLE CHUTE - The Mustangs took an 11-point lead at halftime and maintained it in the second half in the win over the Jets.

Hunter Thiel led Little Chute with 12 points. Carter Engle added 11.

Landon Chalupny led Roncalli with 12 points. Brett Simmer added 10.

Menasha was led by Trayveon Lockridge with 23 points. Riley Yonker scored 10 points.

Kade Rosenow added 13 points for Clintonville.

The Truckers grabbed a 36-31 halftime advantage and the game remained tight the rest of the way.

Dawson Schmidt had the hot hand for the Chiefs with 30 points, while Bennett Wilcox added 16 and Jacob Klitzke 14.

FOX CROSSING - The Zephyrs doubled up the Blue Bombers in the first half, pouring on 61 points, and coasted the rest of the way to improve to 18-2 overall.

Cole Uhlenbrauck scored a game-high 36 points for SMC, including 25 in the first half. Danny Griffith added 13 points, Michael Fairweather tacked on 12, Fisher MacKenzie had 11, and Charlie Nackers rounded out the scoring leaders for the Zephyrs with 10 points.

Trey Keller led Kohler with 24 points and Max Breitenbach followed with 16 for the Blue Bombers.

Tomahawk 4, Waupaca 2

TOMAHAWK - The Hatchets scored three goals in the second period to take control of the game.

Zack Friske had a goal and two assists for Tomahawk. Austin Lamer, Jonah Dickens and Beau Stromberg also scored goals.

Waupaca goals were scored by Ryan Mace and Cael Prey.

Tomahawk goalie Trevor Seliskar had 23 saves. Carson Jameson had 20 saves for Waupaca.
