Tuesday's HS roundup: Lombardi leads Portsmouth girls past Winnacunnet

HAMPTON – Savannah Emery’s layup early in the fourth quarter gave the Portsmouth High School girls basketball team the lead for good and the Clippers pulled out a 37-29 win over Winnacunnet on Tuesday.

Portsmouth is now 14-1 on the season, while Winnacunnet is 1-14.

Mackenzie Lombardi led the Clippers with 15 points, while Margaret Montplaisir and Avery Romps both had seven.

Mackenzie O’Regan and Casey Coleman both had seven points for the Warriors.

GIRLS BASKETBALL

No. 7 Winthrop 44 

No. 10 Traip Academy 41 

WINTHROP, Maine – Emme Hale had a team-high 16 points for Traip in a Class C South quarterfinal game.

Hannah Thorsen and Lilly Stuart both added 11 points for the Rangers, who ended their season at 9-10.

Exeter 38 

Spaulding 37 

ROCHESTER – Marlie Macek’s layup with 40 seconds left was the difference in this Division I win for Exeter, which improved to 10-4. Spaulding is 7-7.

Emma Smith and Hailey Harrison both scored 10 points for the Blue Hawks, while Jenna Philbrook (12 points), Jade Trueman (11) and Mackenzie Brochu (10) all scored in double figures for the Red Raiders.

Dover 52

DOVER – Lilly Nossiff had 19 points and Abbie Kozlowski had 15 for Dover in this Division I win.

BOYS BASKETBALL

Portsmouth 50 

Winnacunnet 48 

PORTSMOUTH – Matthew Minckler’s two free throws broke a 48-48 tie with 5.8 seconds left in regulation and Portsmouth held for on this Division I win as Tyson Khalil’s potential game-tying layup at the buzzer hit the side of the rim.

Both teams are now 9-6\.

Elliot Miles led Portsmouth with 12 points, while Minckler and Miles de Iong both had 10. Joshua Schaake’s career-high 26 points led Winnacunnet. Jared Khalil added 11 points for the Warriors.

Exeter 74 

Spaulding 37 

EXETER -- Ryan Luper scored 14 points and Jack Cartwright added 10 to lead Exeter (11-4) to this Division I win.

Zander Walbridge and Marcel Rose both scored seven points for Spaulding.

Oyster River 75

DURHAM - Mason Tatarian had 18 points and Julian O'Quinn had 16 for Oyster River in this Division II win.

Sean Lynch added nine points for the Bobcats, while Ben Kelley had seven points and 15 rebounds.

Alvirne 64

Dover 54

HUDSON - Stephen Gitau's game-high 26 points wasn't enough for Dover (5-11) to pull out this Division I win. Dylan Jabre added 13 points for the Green Wave, while Johnny Arakelian had nine.

LEBANON – St. Thomas goalie Diana Pivirotto had 19 saves in this Division I loss.
