Tuesday's HS sports highlights: Dover girls tennis improves to 2-0

The Dover High School girls tennis team improved to 2-0 on the season after a 3-2 win over visiting Marietta at Dover City Park on Tuesday.

Taylor Rose rolled to a 6-0, 6-0 win over Reagan Estes at No. 1 singles and Kaleigh McCutcheon outlasted Olivia Emery 7-5, 7-6 (4) at No. 2 singles, while Josie Pinelli posted a 6-2, 6-3 win over Jenna Jackson at No. 3 singles.

Marietta swept the doubles contests as Dover's Julia Swope and Morgan Huston fell 6-1, 6-1 at No. 1 doubles and Crimson Tornado teammate Avery Contini and Katlyn Hines dropped a 6-1, 6-3 decision at No. 2 doubles.

The Dover JV team improved to 1-1 after a 4-2 win over Marietta.

Lexington 4, New Phila 1

New Philadelphia dropped its first match in the Ohio Cardinal Conference as the Quakers opened its season with a setback at Lexington.

The lone Quaker win came at No. 3 singles as freshman Katelyn Mamula defeated Ulo Ezike 6-1, 6-1.

Boys golf

Quaker Invitational

Dover won the first ever Quaker Invitational hosted by New Philadelphia at Oak Shadows.

The Crimson Tornadoes posted a 305 as Dylan Grewell led the way with a 72, while Jacob Hanner had a 77, Ryan Yoder a 77 and Zach Dale an 81.

The host Quakers were second with a 346 and Claymont was third with a 368, while Ridgewood (4th, 417), Massillon (5th, 444) and Canton South (6th, 452) rounded out the field.

Koi Preston led Claymont with a 79 followed by Luke Caley (85) and Trenton Morris and Trevor McGarr (102s).

Warrior-Jaguar Classic

Jaxon Rinkes fired a two-over-par 74 as Carrollton won the Division II portion of the Worthington Christian Warrior-Jaguar Classic held at NorthStar Golf Club.

Cayden Rininger was next with a 79, while Colton Moore, John Birong and Micah Barkan all shot 80 for Carrollton, who shot a 313 total.

Centerburg finished second on a fifth-man tiebreaker over Columbus Academy. Each shot a 316.

Hiland finished second in Division III with a 327 and seventh overall as a team.

Lucas Yoder led Hawks with a 78 and Nathan Kline added an 80, while Jack Mast posted an 84 and Camden Bille carded an 85.

Newark Catholic won the division with a 308.

Garaway ended up eighth in Divison III with a 361.

Trace Gibson led Garaway with an 83 and Carter Miller was next with an 86, while Nick Maust and Keshawn Miller each added 96s.

Sandy Valley 159, Tusky Valley 222

Connor Ritter fired a one-under-par 35 and John Wood added a even par 36 to lead Sandy Valley to a Inter-Valley Conference win win over Tusky Valley at Wilkshire.

Lucas Ellington and Thorn Stenger each added a 44 for the winners (1-0, 1-0).

Connor Gardner led Tusky Valley (0-1, 0-1) with a 37 followed by Caleb Cook Linamen (57), Cole Kuykendall (58) and Xander Tidrick (70).

Girls golf

Tri-County Preseason

Garaway won the Tri-County Preseason played at the par 71 Pleasant View Golf Club.

The Pirates won with a 317 score led by Sydni Prysi's 77 and Sammi Miller's 79, while Brooklyn Numbers added a 79 and Hannah Steiner had an 82.

Marlington was second with a 341 as Zoe Mort was medalist with a 71 and Marla Warner added a 72.

Dover finished third as it shot a 365 behind Piper Olson's 85 and Riley Schie's 86. Mya Downing added a 95 and Sara Klar posted a 99 for the Crimson Tornadoes. Olson made the All-Tournament First Team and Schie was a Second Team honoree.

Tusky Valley was fourth with a 370 as Kylie Rohr paved the way with a 85 and Carrollton finished fifth with a 374 backed by Ashlee Garner's 85. River View (389 led by Paige Niceley's 89), New Philadelphia (476 led by Emma Menapace's 90) and Fairless (483 led by Bri Schumacher's 116) also competed from the area.

Claymont vs. Sandy Valley

Alivia Edwards carded a 46 to lead Claymont as the Mustangs traveled to Sandy Valley.

Mimi Bausch added a 53 and Meadow Duvall posted a 55, while Alexa Brick had a 62 for the Mustangs, who had a 216 total.

Ava Schoeppner had a 46 and Ashlynn Glaser recorded 50 for the Cardinals, who did not field a full team.
