Tuition costs rising for some students at UNC schools next year

Some tuition rates within the University of North Carolina System will remain unchanged in the next academic year, while others are going up.

During its meeting on Thursday, the system’s board of governors voted to keep tuition rates for the 2023-24 academic year flat for North Carolina residents pursuing undergraduate degrees. The board approved some increases for nonresident students and in-state graduate students.

This is the seventh consecutive year the system has kept tuition flat for in-state undergraduate students.

UNC Charlotte is less expensive than many of its peers within the system for resident undergrads, according to UNC System materials available online. For resident graduate students and nonresident undergraduates, the university requested a 3% increase. The projected additional revenue would be used to fund graduate school support staff, develop a transition program for new students, support graduate student compensation and improve academic support programs.
