Tulane Green Wave hit the road to face SMU Thursday

NEW ORLEANS (WGNO) — Tulane University men’s basketball (12-8, 3-5) will take the court in an effort to return to the win column as it visits SMU (13-7, 4-3) in Dallas Thursday night. The Green Wave currently sits ninth in the American Athletic Conference with 10 games remaining.
 
The game between the Green Wave and the Mustangs is set to tipoff at 6 p.m. on ESPN2. Fans can also listen to the action live on the Tulane Sports Network from Learfield on 104.1 The Spot with the Voice of the Green Wave Corey Gloor or streaming on the Tulane Athletics App and The Varsity Network App.
 
This marks the 44th all-time meeting between the Green Wave and the Mustangs with Tulane trailing in the series 18-25. Tulane is just 3-17 against SMU in Dallas despite winning in its last visit 97-88 last season on January 11, 2023. The Wave has won the last two meetings with the Mustangs but has never won back-to-back games in Dallas.
 
In its last time out, Tulane dropped back-to-back games for just the second time this season after falling at home to Charlotte 75-71 on Saturday, January 27. The Green Wave never led in the game against the 49ers but fought to the end pulling to within two points late in the second half after trailing by as many as 11 points earlier in the contest. Kevin Cross led Tulane in scoring with 16 points while Tre’ Williams added his best scoring performance at Tulane finishing with 15 points off the bench.
 
On the road this season Tulane holds a 2-3 record in true road games including a 1-3 mark in league play. The Green Wave is averaging 79.2 points on 45.1 percent shooting on the road while allowing opponents to average 82.0 points on 42.6 percent shooting.
 
SMU enters the matchup on a two-game losing streak after losing at North Texas 68-66 and at Wichita State 77-72. The Mustangs now hold a 13-7 overall record and a 4-3 mark in the AAC.
 
The defense leads the way for SMU ranking first in the conference in field goal percentage defense and three-point percentage defense. The Mustangs also rate third nationally against three-point shooting and fourth in the country in overall field goal percentage defense.
 
Following the matchup at SMU, the Green Wave will return home to host Temple in Uptown on Sunday, February 4. The game between Tulane and the Owls is set to tip off at 3 p.m. on ESPNU.
