Tulare County Sheriff's Department Operation Gold star nets 34 arrests

Tulare County's “Operation Gold Star” netted 34 arrests and the seizure of illegal drugs and weapons over the weekend, according to sheriff's officials.

The focus of the countywide operation was to conduct probation and parole compliance checks, and arrest warrant services to "prevent gang violence in and around Tulare County."

The operation covered Tulare County and unincorporated cities, sheriff's officials said. Unincorporated cities include Cutler, Orosi and areas such as Strathmore and London.

Local law enforcement officers from various agencies made 47 probation checks, 57 parole checks and roughly 100 traffic stops. During the two-day operation, 34 suspects were arrested, 31 arrest warrants were served, three people were cited, and 19 guns, one stolen vehicle, a half-pound of methamphetamine and 1 ounce of cocaine were seized.

California Crime Rates

California has continually seen a rise in violent crime, based off a report in 2021 here are some crime rates:

  • California’s violent crime rate increased by 6.0%

  • Robberies fell by 1.9%

  • Aggravated assaults have jumped to 8.9%

  • Homicides increased by 7.7%

  • Rape increased by 7.9%

Gun related incidents continue to rise as well and homicides and aggravated assaults. This can be directly correlated with the gangs in California, as gangs play a huge part in gun violence.

Gang Homicide Study

There was a study that looked into the gang homicide statistics. it revealed some interesting facts about California gang violence and gang related murders from 1970-1994.

  • a third of victims are not associated to violent gangs

  • Victims are on average only 21 years old

  • Gang related deaths for black men, ages 15-19 has trippled in those years

  • Gang related death for latino men, ages 15-19, increased by 30%

  • 5% of gang deaths at the time of the study were related to narcotics trafficking, which has probably increased

  • 95% of murders were done using a gun

  • Semiautomatic usage has increased by 40%
