Tulip Time announces entertainment, exhibits for 2023

HOLLAND — Tulip Time has announced a full slate of parades, shows and exhibits for 2023.

Multi-platinum entertainer Sara Evans will make an appearance. Evans is the fifth most-played female artist on country radio "in nearly the last two decades," Tulip Time wrote in a release. Her five No. 1 singles include “No Place That Far,” “Suds In The Bucket, “A Real Fine Place To Start,” “Born to Fly,” and “A Little Bit Stronger."

Girl Named Tom will also play during the festival. The group made history as the first-ever trio to win NBC's "The Voice." Back by popular demand is Elton Rohn, the Elton John tribute show that sold-out during Tulip Time 2022. Elton Rohn features full harmonies and all musicians playing and singing live.

The Tulip Immersion Garden, which debuted in 2022, returns in 2023 with a new location at Beechwood Church in Park Township. World-renowned Dutch horticulturist Ibo Gülsen will display over 50,000 tulips in three stunning, raised displays to immerse guests in chest and eye-level tulips.

Gülsen has crafted immersion gardens in China and Myanmar.

Also returning next year is the Tulip Time Artisan Market, which brings together over 200 vendors with unique, hard-to-find items. The market is moving to the Ottawa County Fairgrounds in Park Township, effectively trading spaces with the Immersion Garden.

Historical walking tours and tall-ship dockside tours will return, with the addition of guided beverage tastings from Tulip City Brewstillery and expanded Dutch Dance exhibits — including community lessons, a style show and a pass-the-shoe ceremony.

The Art in Bloem Fine Art Showcase will give visitors the chance to choose their favorite of the Top 20 poster designs for 2023 at Holland Civic Center, plus view traditional Dutch costumes on display.Tulip Time will stick to a two-parade schedule this year, down from three pre-pandemic. The Gentex (Children's) Kinderparade will take place Thursday, May 11, as elementary school children parade down Eighth Street in full costume.

The festival's effective finale, the Quality Car Wash (People's) Volksparade, will take place Saturday, May 13, with street scrubbing, the ceremonial white glove inspection and an official announcement by the town crier before dozens of bands and community floats make their way through downtown Holland.

This year's festival will feature a local performing arts series, with a talent showcase from area high schools, a show ("Nana's Naughty Knickers") by Holland Community Theatre, a performance by the American Legion Band at the Jack H. Miller Center for Musical Arts and a specialty concert on Dutch musical history at Hope Church.Tulip Time 2023 will also include the annual Quilt Show at Beechwood Church, floral arranging classes and the Tulip Time Run at Kollen Park.The festival is May 6-14.
