Tunnel of Terror, fall-themed festivals: 5 things to do in metro Detroit this weekend

It's supposed to warm up this weekend, which is good news for the many Halloween and fall-themed events on the schedule in metro Detroit. Here are five of the biggest.

Macomb County HarvestFest

Families are encouraged to come in costume at this community event, which will feature hayrides, inflatables, movies, music, a children’s tattoo artist, magic, pumpkin carvers, games and food trucks. Trick-or-treating stations will be open each day from 12:30 to 2 p.m. and 3 to 4:30 p.m.

HarvestFest has partnered with Gleaners to collect canned goods and non-perishable protein items at the festival. There will be a drop-off area as you arrive.

Noon-5 p.m. Saturday-Sunday at the Freedom Hill County Park Pavilion, 14900 Metro Parkway, Sterling Heights. $8, free to children younger than 3. Day-of tickets will be $10 at the gate.

Bagley Street Film Festival

This event will highlight metro Detroit filmmakers in a variety of film genres – features, documentaries, shorts, animation and films produced by filmmakers 17 and younger – at two locations in southwest Detroit’s Mexicantown.

Friday-Sunday, Matrix Theatre, 2730 Bagley in Detroit, and the Ford Resource & Engagement Center, 20th Street in Detroit (directly across from the theater). $10 for one showing, $30 for a weekend pass. Go to matrixtheatre.org for schedule and tickets.

Pumpkin Palooza

Bring your kids and pets in costume to the 11th edition of this event in downtown Plymouth. Visitors will be treated to games, candy, live entertainment, music, dancing and a costume contest.

11:30 a.m.-2:30 p.m. Sunday, downtown Plymouth. West Ann Arbor Trail, Forest, Penniman and Main streets will be closed. Free.

Tunnel of Terror

Clean View Auto Wash has transformed its auto wash into a drive-through Halloween attraction that includes strobe lights to illuminate the foam and employees dressed in costumes who will pop out between cars and provide a scare.

6-9 p.m. Friday at 14255 Twenty-three Mile in Shelby Township and 6-9 p.m. Oct. 28-29 at 42400 Hayes in Clinton Township. The $17 wash will be the only available wash during Tunnel of Terror hours unless you are an unlimited monthly wash membership holder.

Erebus Fun Without Fear Weekend Tours

Erebus Haunted Attraction in Pontiac is offering a series of family-friendly, no-scare weekend tours this weekend and next. Tour slots will be offered 3-5 p.m. on Saturdays and Sundays through Oct. 30.

The half-mile, four-story haunted attraction is at 18 South Perry in Pontiac. A limited number of $15 tickets are available for the no-actor tours and can be purchased online at www.hauntedpontiac.com, You can also visit the website to get tickets for the full-scale Erebus experience, which includes no-holds-barred horror scenes, sounds and illusions.
