Following is a list of sports tidbits, mostly from the not-so-distant-past.

Aug. 23, 1998Barnsdall High's Leslie Gray spanked a double and a single to spark the Lady Panthers past Dewey, 6-2, in softball action. Gray also played flawless at shortstop. Cheryl Wyrick and Sara Conley also each doubled for Barnsdall. Dewey's Stephanee Smith belted a single to break up Wyrick's bid for a no-hitter. Cathy Nitz then tripled home Smith to ruin the shutout.

Feb. 27, 1971Despite an 18-point eruption by Doug Tolin, the Sooner High Spartans fell in boys hardwood play to Tulsa Webster, 55-52. Ron Potter and Dennis VanLeeuwen contributed 13 and 11 points, respectively. Webster led at halftime, 30-19.

March 16, 2003Up-and-coming ConocoPhillips Splash Club warrior Holly Trumble hoisted the top award in the girls 10-and-under 100 backstroke at the Oklahoma Age Group Championships in Norman. In the girls' 19-and-under division, teammate Gloriann Ried rocketed to the championship in the 200 backstroke.

May 17, 2004Bartlesville High senior tennis legend J.P. Ritchie just missed out on winning the Class 5A state championship in the No. 1 singles division. Tulsa Union's Blake Boswell edged Ritchie, 7-5, 2-6, 6-3 in the final, played in Oklahoma City. In his first three matches, Ritchie had cruised like a greased hurricane through sagebrush country. He won his first those competitions by a combined game score of 36-10. Next up for Ritchie was a tennis career at the University of Iowa.

Aug. 20, 1998Barnsdall pitcher Cheryl Wyrick wreaked havoc on the Caney Valley offense in a 10-0 victory. Wyrick snapped off a three-hitter in the complete-game shutout. On the offensive side, Tamara Bell drove in two runs for Barnsdall.

Thursday, May 29, 2003Dustin Humphries crushed a three-run double to help the Bartlesville United Linen Warriors avoid a sweep in American Legion AA (16-and-under) baseball. Hilldale rolled to an 11-1 laugher in the opener. But, in the nightcap, the Warriors erupted for some big runs in the fourth inning — Yogi Lynch singled, Kelby Foreman, Kyle Venamon and Jake Trotter drew consecutive walks and Humphries cleared the bases with his two-bagger.

August 5, 1998Annette Ropp hurled the distance for the Bartlesville Chevy City Blazers in a 3-1 loss to a New York team in the ASA 18-and-under nationals in Sacramento, Calif. Earlier the game day, the Indiana Gamblers trumped the Blazers, 5-0, despite strong pitching stints by Bethany May and Ropp.

June 26, 2003Will Miller smashed three hits and drove in two runs to inspire the Dewey Rebels to an 11-3 win against Tulsa East Central in American Legion Baseball action. Despite allowing nine hits, Dewey hurler Spencer Herren hung tough. Tyler Prunty doubled home one of Dewey's runs.

Oct. 27, 2005Kevin Kedy amassed 180 yards of total offense for the Bartlesville Bruins in a 40-21 gridiron loss to Tulsa Memorial. Kedy scored on runs of four and 14 years, and flung a 15-yard touchdown pass to Kermit Reese. Future NFL draft pick Markel Carter seized four catches for 69 yards.

March 24, 2005Joey Evans surged to second place in the boys 3200m run (10:25.15), to spearhead Bartlesville High's showing at a Ponca City track meet. Evans also turned in a persona best time in the 1600m run (4:50.). Junior strongman Mickey Dollens seized third in the shot put (48-8) as Bartlesville's only other placer.

Aug. 21-22, 1998Cathy Nitz finished up a marathon weekend by pitching her seventh game for Dewey High's softball team in the Collinsville tourney. Dewey. Gina Stevens, Kristin McDaniel and Stephanee Smith opened a 7-2 win against Springdale with back-to-back-to-back singles. The Stevens twins (Gina and Ginger) each blasted two hits in the victory. Michelle Bauman crushed two doubles in a 15-1 shellacking in a second matchup against Springdale.

May 8, 2004Bartlesville's Brett Turowski bolted to two gold medals at the Class 6A regionals, hosted by Tulsa Union. He surged past all his challenges in the 3200m (9:28) and the 1600m (4:27.46). He joined Clint Bales, Jordan Hughes and Joey Evans in finishing second in the 4x800m relay. Jennifer Vines and Cari Griffin each qualified for state in the girls' sprints.

May 8, 2004Pawhuska's Whitney Metcalf captured three sprint gold medals in the Class 3A state track championships. She also was a member of the second-place 4x100 relay team, which also featured Amber Taylor, Brittany Martinez and Lauren Gould.
