LAST FROM THE PAST: Following is a 2002 article about the Bartlesville High cross country team.

Five Lady Bruins posted top-50 finishes at Friday’s crowded cross country Hugh Pierce Chandler Park Run in Tulsa.

Cari Griffin and Tera Hughes paced the Bartlesville High varsity girls to fourth place in the team standings out of a field of 20 schools.

Griffin finished the two-mile race in 18th in 14:17. She was followed two seconds later by Hughes, who took 19th in 14:19.

In the varsity boys three-mile race, Jordan Hughes shattered the 18:00-mark for Bartlesville.

He finished 11th overall in 17:47. Bartlesville finished sixth as a team in the varsity boys division.

Bethany Tyndall claimed the highest finish for all Bartlesville runners.

She won the junior high girls division with a time of 8:20 for the one-mile race.

Overall, it was a challenging day for the Bartlesville runners, first-year head coach Daisy Rogers said.

“Friday-the-13th loomed in on us,” she said. “This hilly, extremely lengthy course seemed to be a nosebleed run for our Bruins. It was a massive race.”
