Tupelo's season ends at Mid-South Regional

Aug. 8—The Tupelo 49ers saw their season come to an end Sunday night in Pelham, Alabama.

Gonzales (La.) won 11-9 in an elimination game at the American Legion Mid-South Regional. The win sends Gonzales to the championship game against Troy (Ala.).

Tupelo (35-3), last year's regional champ, jumped ahead 3-0 in the first inning on Jackson McCoy's three-run homer, but Gonzales stormed back to take a 7-3 lead. The 49ers tied it at 7-7 with a four-run fourth, but Gonzales added two runs apiece in the fifth and sixth.

Tupelo starter Jackson Cheek allowed six runs on three hits and eight walks in 1 2-3 innings. Reliever Jack Taylor took the loss.

Cole Poirrier tossed 4 2-3 innings of relief to earn the win.
