Turfway Park reopening in Florence. Here's what you can expect from the racing track

On your mark, get set, go!

Turfway Park Racing & Gaming, located at 7500 Turfway Road in Florence, reopens to the public Thursday, Sept. 1. There will be a grand opening and ribbon-cutting ceremony at 8:45 a.m., with special appearances from Mayor Diane Whalen and other distinguished guests.

The re-opened Turfway Park will have approximately 1,000 Historical Racing Machines (HRMs). It will also offer live thoroughbred horse racing, simulcast wagering, restaurant venues, a VIP Lounge and a multi-purpose event center. Live horse racing is slated to return in late November.

Churchill Downs Incorporated (CDI) has also made significant changes to the racing surface and the track’s backside, according to the Turfway Park website.

The company, which acquired Turfway Park in 2019, demolished the existing grandstand after the 2019-20 race meet, replacing the Polytrack with a new $8.1 million Tapeta synthetic track. An additional $31 million was also used to improve the backside of the park and the dormitories for track workers. Five new horse stables and a new storm water collection system have also been installed.

Hours of operation for Turfway Park have yet to be determined.
