Turkey to deport U.S. Islamic State detainee
Turkey said on Thursday (November 14) it would deport an American Islamic State fighter to the United States.
It announced from Monday (November 11) that it would start sending Western foreign fighters back to their home countries -- whether they agreed to take them or not.
That's the suspected American fighter standing in the buffer zone on the Greek-Turkish border. He was stranded here for several days after Greece refused him entry.
Turkey's interior ministry said the U.S. had agreed to take him back.
The announcement came a day after President Tayyip Erdogan held talks with U.S. President Donald Trump in Washington to tackle mounting differences.
Erdogan wants the United States to stop supporting the Kurdish YPG militia in neighboring northern Syria.
Turkey also said it was also deporting one British fighter and sending seven Germans back to Berlin fighters, their wives, and a baby.
And that I.S. members from Ireland, France, and Denmark will also be sent home.
Turkey holds hundreds of Islamic State suspects and their families in jail.
It has suffered multiple attacks at the hands of the group and has been calling for countries to take their citizens back.
