Turkey giveaway at Grace set for Saturday

Dec. 22—GOSHEN — Grace Community Church is passing out turkeys for the Christmas season.

First-come-first-serve, there will be 500 to 600 turkeys available beginning at 8:30 a.m. Saturday.

"It truly is the heart of Christmas," said Grace Senior Pastor Jim Brown. "We celebrate Jesus and that's his heart. This is just really heartbeat of Jesus, and it's kind of fun for us. I can't wait to meet people in their cars and hand off the turkeys."

The turkey giveaway is a first for Grace Community Church. Brown explained that Milford Food Bank received the offer of donation but didn't have the space to distribute and asked the church to help out, and they graciously agreed.

"Our hope is that we encourage people and just bless them with the love of Jesus this Christmas," Brown said. "We want God to get all the glory through this."

Anyone interested in receiving a turkey should enter through the west entrance of the parking lot. It will be a drive-thru format, so guests should expect to stay in their car to receive one turkey per family.

It's a no-strings-attached donation, Brown said, but anyone is welcome to attend one of the church's five Christmas Eve services the following day, Sunday.

Services will be at 1 p.m., 2:30 p.m., 4 p.m., 5:30 p.m., and 7 p.m. Each service will also feature a special donation for one family in need. Offerings given at each individual service will go toward one family in need, which will be announced at the end of that service.

"It's such a fun thing to do on Christmas Eve for needy people."
