'It's a turkey, not a tiger': Wausau Police catch feathered intruder red-handed after breaking into apartment

WAUSAU – Capturing a turkey loose in an apartment is all in a day's work, right?

Well, maybe not a typical day in the life of a police officer. But it was for Wausau police officers on Friday when they were called to wrangle the feathered intruder.

The Wausau Police Department shared a video on its Facebook page Monday evening showing officers responding to a call of a turkey loose in an apartment complex.

Officers came prepared with a net and gloves to try to trap the bird. Before they enter, one officer is overheard requesting he be equipped with both when they attempt to grab it.

"It's a turkey, not a tiger," another officer responded jokingly.

The video shows officers capturing the bird in a net after several attempts. They took the turkey outside and released it by a wooded area.

Facebook users got a kick out of the video, which has more than 11,000 views, 400 reactions and 190 shares.

"You never know who or what you will be called on to rescue!! Great job!!" one Facebook commenter said.

"All in the line of duty! Great job!" another said.

This isn't the first time Wausau officers have been called to wrangle a wild animal. In March 2021, they helped a deer that had crashed through the window of a local nursing home.
