Turkey Trotters work up Thanksgiving appetite with run in Little Falls
LITTLE FALLS - Dedicated runners who wanted to work up their appetites on Thanksgiving started their day with a five-kilometer run on the streets of Little Falls at the fifth annual Turkey Trot.
More than 100 runners registered and 78 set out to run the course. The turnout was a new high for the event that was among the first in-person running events held as the community emerged from COVID-19 and social distancing in 2020.

A misdirection sent the lead runner on an alternate - and longer - course, but Louis Clarke still won his age group. The Turkey Trot course starts and finishes at the intersection of Jackson and Gansevoort streets and sends runners east then north to the turnaround near Moreland Park.
The first official finisher was Keegan Connolly of Little Falls while Amanda Mazza, the women' champion from New Hartford, ran second overall, just ahead of Herkimer's Leah Wessinger.
Money raised by entry fees and donations, and left over after expenses, goes to the Little Falls Food Pantry. Organizer Rob Richard anticipates a contribution of about $500.
Next up on the Rock City Runners event calendar is the Dec. 10 Red Nose Reindeer Run held as part of Christmas in Little Falls. Volunteers are being sought to help with the 9 a.m. 5K race that starts at the tradition spot at the intersection of Jackson and Gansevoort streets and ends on Main Street.
