Turkeyfoot superintendent honored by the state for educational leadership

CONFLUENCE ― Nicole Dice, superintendent of the Turkeyfoot Valley Area School District, recently was honored for her work in education by the Pennsylvania Association of School Administrators (PASA).

She was given the Wanda McDaniel Award by the Women’s Caucus of PASA which recognizes one school administrator annually who demonstrates evidence of great leadership.

The award recognizes women with exceptional education accomplishments within the commonwealth. Dice was nominated by a colleague for her program development, fiscal management and professional growth.

Dice became the youngest female superintendent in Pennsylvania in 2020 when she was hired as the lead administrator at Turkeyfoot Valley Area. She thrives in her role as an innovative problem solver and works to develop capacity among staff, earning her recognition as the 32nd Senatorial District 2021 Person of the Year in Somerset County.

During her administrative career at Turkeyfoot, Dice has revised the busing system and aligned programs to balance the district budget while bringing additional programs to the district. She began a theater and music program, bringing music lessons, band programs and musical opportunities to all elementary and secondary children.

Dice works to develop leadership skills among staff within her district creating professional learning opportunities for staff to move education from the industrial model to innovative learning. She implemented the first local model of learning progressions in 2022, moving education to an individualized model for all children in the elementary level.

Dice’s accomplishments were honored at an award ceremony in Hershey, where her husband and son were in attendance. She will be expanding her professional resume this year with several state conference presentations sharing her leadership techniques and academic planning skills with educators and administrators across the state.
