Turkish prosecutor opens new investigation into jailed Kurdish politician

ISTANBUL, Sept 20 (Reuters) - A Turkish prosecutor has opened a new investigation into Selahattin Demirtas, the jailed former leader of Turkey's pro-Kurdish Peoples' Democratic Party (HDP), on terrorism-related charges, Demirtas tweeted on Friday.

Demirtas said the prosecutor in the capital Ankara had requested he be re-arrested, just as his lawyers were applying for him to be released on parole.

The prosecutor's office in Ankara was not immediately available to comment.

"There is no judiciary, no justice, no law, no judges. Not just for us, for none of you," Demirtas said on Twitter.

One of Turkey's best known politicians, Demirtas has been in jail for almost three years and faces several legal cases, mainly on terrorism charges, which he denies.

A Turkish court ruled earlier this month that he should be released while the trial continues in the main case against him. But a jail sentence of four years and eight months that he received last September over comments he made in a speech in 2013 prevented his release.

Demirtas' lawyers applied for the three years he has spent in jail to be subtracted from that sentence, which would make him eligible for release on parole.

The court agreed to that and his lawyers applied for his release on parole on Friday, the HDP said in a statement. It said the prosecutor was seeking to prevent his release by requesting his arrest again. (Reporting by Ali Kucukgocmen and Ece Toksabay; Editing by Mark Potter)
