A Turlock native will be among those vying for a Grammy Award during Sunday evening’s ceremonies.
Mike Hermosa is nominated for album of the year as a songwriter on Lana Del Rey’s “Did You Know There’s a Tunnel Under Ocean Blvd.”
The Grammys will be handed out Sunday, Feb. 4, in Los Angeles and televised at 5 p.m. on CBS and Paramount+.
Hermosa has songwriting credits on five songs on the album: “The Grants,” “Did You Know There’s a Tunnel Under Ocean Blvd,” “Let the Light In,” “Peppers,” and “Taco Truck x VB.”
He also produced the track “Did You Know There’s a Tunnel Under Ocean Blvd,” according to a story in the Turlock Journal.
“I was in one room just strumming some chords and Lana was in another and she could hear it and she started coming up with the lyrics,” he said in the story. “She came out and asked me to play it again and that’s how we got that song.”
Hermosa is a writer, director, producer and the co-owner of Wild7Films, which specializes in film and television production, according to the Journal. He has been involved in music since high school, playing guitar and coming up with lyrics with a friend.
“It didn’t hit me at first,” Hermosa said of the nomination. “I’m happy for Lana and everyone on the team that worked on the album. It has been a whirlwind and I don’t think I’ve processed it all.”
Hermosa graduated from Turlock High School in 2002 and joined the Air Force, serving two tours during Operation Iraqi Freedom and Operation Enduring Freedom, according to the Journal.
After the military, he started a career in entertainment and has completed several projects, including some filmed in Turlock.
