Turn in old firearms for cash at March gun buyback event in Lemon Grove

LEMON GROVE, Calif. (FOX 5/KUSI) — Have guns laying around that you want to get rid of? You can turn that old gun into cash at the San Diego County Sheriff’s gun buyback and gun safety event in Lemon Grove.

The event will be held at the First Baptist Church of Lemon Grove on Saturday, March 9 from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Gift cards of $100 will be given out for handguns, rifles and shotguns. $200 gift cards will be given for assault weapons.

The San Diego County Sheriff’s Department is partnering with the San Diego County District Attorney’s Office, La Mesa Police Department, San Diego County Probation Department and the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation Division of Adult Parole Operations (DAPO) for the event in an effort to get unwanted guns off the streets.

The sheriff’s department says no questions will be asked and those turning in guns can remain anonymous.

Guns must be working to be turned in at the event.

When turning in an unwanted firearm at the event, keep unloaded gun or guns in the trunk of your car and wait for further instructions from a deputy.

Free gun cable locks and handgun security boxes will also be available at the event, while supplies last.

All weapons collected will be destroyed, the sheriff’s department noted.

Nearly 300 firearms were turned in at a December 2023 gun buyback event in Vista.
