Your turn: What are some things we can hope for in 2024?

I can think of a list of things we need to strive for. One primary thing we can all consider is a reduction in divisiveness.

We are not a real new nation reason. We have been in existence in this country since 1776. This is two hundred and forty-seven years ago.

We were on the right track in a major way when slavery was abolished in January 1865 and ratified in December of 1865 and this was 168 years ago.

It is unthinkable that so many have less to account for. The less fortunate, shoulder the brunt of our issues in this country. If you stop and think about it, it is widely accepted by some.

Here is the case, if you have an abundance of money you can buy your way out of most bad things. This to me is a terrible injustice that appears to be the norm.

Some of us will accept just about anything without thinking, “what this will cause, and the effect of so many of us accepting this callous attitude”? Showing no sensitivity or regard for other people's way of living or their concerns.

There are some who have the mental attitude, “my way or the highway.” These kind of persons cause others to give up before they even get started.

There are many reasons to want to hope in 2024.

We need to start somewhere. If you stop and think for a minute, what are some of the root causes of our issues today? If divisiveness is not in your top ten, we are headed for more trouble. Of course we need to start somewhere.

In the year 2000, there were about 50,000 men and women 100 years old or older in the U.S. In 2010, there were about 54,000. In 2020, there were about 80,000 people living above the century mark, according to the US Census Bureau.

Here are a few suggestions to help extend your life.

1. Do some physical exercises

2. Take care of your health. Get checked by a medical physician.

3. Be active mentally. Read, do crossword puzzles and take medically prescribed drugs for your mental state.

4. Eat properly even if it means eating small meals.

5. Sleep properly. Get enough rest.

These may be the reasons people are living longer.

Some good news is the median income for personal households for persons over the age of 65 is $47,000, according to AARP.

Finally, thank you to all the readers of this paper and the opinions shared. May you have a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.
