Who should be the Tuscaloosa area high school athlete of the week for May 16-22?

Who was the area's top high school sports performer last week? You tell us. You can vote for the high school athlete of the week until noon Thursday. You don't have to be a subscriber to vote. Votes are limited to one per hour per device.

You can make a nomination for a future player of the week by sending an email to jrushin@gannett.com by 6 p.m. Sunday. Do NOT send votes to this address. They will not be counted.

Alyssa Faircloth, Holy Spirit Catholic softball: Faircloth allowed just two hits and had 10 strikeouts in Holy Spirit's 3-1 win over Skyline to win its first AHSAA 1A state championship. In four games at the tournament, she didn't allow any earned runs. Faircloth pitched a one-hitter against Cedar Bluff.

Rashni Walker, Northridge track and field: Won her second straight heptathlon championship with 4,981 points. She won the 100-meter hurdles at 14.12 seconds, the shot put with a 37 feet, 8.5 inch throw and the javelin with a 124 feet, 1 inch throw.

Mallory Sluder, Southern Academy softball: Pitched every game in both the AISA regional and AA state championships to lead her team to back-to-back state championships.

Sarah Deerman, American Christian Academy softball: Her walk-off RBI scored the winning run in the AHSAA 4A state tournament in a 6-5 elimination game win against Madison County.

Chloe Cedotal, Northside softball: Her RBI gave the Rams the winning run in a 3-2 AHSAA 4A state tournament elimination game win against Brooks.
