Tuscaloosa area high school top performers: Holy Spirit's Alyssa Faircloth strikes out 26
Here are the top performers for the second week of May from Tuscaloosa-area boys and girls high school spring sports:
Girls softball
Friday
Holy Spirit's Alyssa Faircloth pitched seven innings and struck out 12 batters, allowed nine hits and eight runs in a 9-8 win against South Lamar in the AHSAA 1A regional.
Holy Spirit's Charli Kyser and Marianna Sellers both went 2-for-4 vs. South Lamar.
Thursday
Holy Spirit's Charli Kyser hit 2-for-3 in a 21-0 win against Autaugaville at the AHSAA 1A regional tournament and was 3-for-4 in a 10-0 win against Maplesville. She pitched two innings against Autaugaville for the win, striking out four batters and allowing no hits.
Holy Spirit's Alyssa Faircloth was winning pitcher vs. Maplesville, striking out 11 batters in six innings and allowing one hit. She pitched one inning and struck out three vs. Autaugaville.
Wednesday
American Christian Academy's Maile White and Avery Boyle both went 4-for-4 to lead a 14-4 win against Munford in the AHSAA regional to advance to the state tournament.
Tuesday
ACA's Molly Barger hit 2-for-2, including a home run, in a 16-0 win against Montevallo in its second game of the AHSAA regional and went 2-for-3 in a 16-1 win against Oak Grove in Game 1.
ACA's Sarah Williams hit a home run vs. Oak Grove and hit a triple vs. Montevallo.
ACA's Hannah Miles hit 3-for-5 with a triple vs. Oak Grove.
Boys track and field
Tuesday
Central's Kenya Franklin signed an athletic scholarship with the University of West Alabama.
Paul W. Bryant's Javion Watkins, a two-time long jump state champion, signed with Johnson C. Smith college.
