A Tuscaloosa man who was free on bail from a 2020 murder accusation now faces another murder charge following a Friday night shooting in Hay Court.

Deramus Devalle Harris Jr., 18, was arrested Saturday afternoon on charges of murder and second-degree robbery.

He is currently being held without bail at the Tuscaloosa County Jail.

He and another man, who is currently being sought by authorities, are suspects in the fatal shooting of 19-year-old Shania Robinson, who died Friday from a gunshot wound to the head, said Capt. Marty Sellers of the Tuscaloosa Violent Crimes Unit.

Robinson’s body was discovered Friday afternoon by Tuscaloosa police, who responded to reports of a shooting at the residential housing complex on 21st Street just after 4 p.m.

“Witnesses gave information that led to the identification of several subjects that were possibly involved in the incident,” Sellers said in a news release. “The investigation determined that two of the subjects were responsible for the actions that led to Ms. Robinson’s death.”

Sellers said Harris’s bail has been revoked from the February 2020 shooting, for which he is facing charges of felony murder and attempted murder.

Harris is accused of contributing to the death of Darrieon Dees, 22, who was killed after he was struck by gunfire during a shootout at the corner of Fosters Ferry Road and 24th Street on Feb. 18, 2020.

Investigators alleged that Harris, then 16, instigated the shootout, which led to Harris and Dees firing pistols at a group of three teenagers on the street.

Two of the three teens returned fire, authorities said.

Harris, who was charged as an adult in this shooting, reportedly had prior issues with at least one of youths involved in the shooting, officials said.
