Yard sale at Midvale United Methodist Church

MIDVALE ‒ The Midvale United Methodist Church, 4383 State St., will have a yard sale from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Thursday and Friday. Cost is by donation.

Canal Dover Festival plate auction results

DOVER ‒ The commemorative plate auction Saturday at the Canal Dover Festival raised $4,115. This year's plate honored the 150th anniversary of the Dover Fire Department.

Purchasers of the plates included:

Snook speaks June 14 at Dover library

DOVER − Ohio native and sports writer Jeff Snook will be at the Dover Public Library at 6:30 p.m. June 14 to talk about his life in writing and the famous people he has met during his career, including Hawaiian Tropic founder Ron Rice, with whom he co-authored "Great Times and Tan Lines." A book signing will follow the program.

Snook has written 14 non-fiction books. He has co-authored many books about the lives of famous sports figures. He collaborated with Ken “Hawk” Harrelson, former major league player and announcer, and wrote "Busted: The Rise and Fall of Art Schlichter" with the former quarterback who was once suspended by NFL Commissioner Pete Rozelle. He has written four books related to Ohio State football and books about the Oklahoma Sooners, the Nebraska Cornhuskers and the Florida Gators.

Poets and writers invited to gather at Dover Public Library

DOVER − The Poets’ Quills meets at 2 p.m. on the second Wednesday of each month at the Dover Public Library. Members of the Writers Critique Group meet at 6 p.m. on the third Thursday of each month. During the month of June, the two groups will meet during the same week: the poets on June 14, and the writers on June 15.

Participants will have a chance to share their work and receive critique from fellow writers, if desired.

Women's Success series at Kent State

NEW PHILADELPHIA – Diane Lautenschleger with Tuscarawas County Convention and Visitors Bureau will speak at the 2023 Women’s Success series from 8:30 to 11:30 a.m. June 9 at Kent State University at Tuscarawas in the Science and Advanced Technology Center. The cost is $15 in advance and $20 at the door, and includes a continental breakfast.

Registration deadline for the June 9 session is June 2. Registrations are limited to the first 100 participants. The Women’s Success Series is designed to inspire women of all ages to succeed personally and professionally. Each year, the leadership series features three women who have enjoyed a measure of success in Tuscarawas County. The sessions also include networking opportunities and a book discussion or TED Talk. The June discussion will feature the book “How to Change” by Katy Milkman.
