Travel author at library Thursday

DOVER – Brandy Gleason, author, Ohio native and travel expert, will present the program “Explore Ohio and Beyond” at 6:30 p.m. Thursday, at the Dover Public Librar. Gleason will offer her perspective on her love of Amish country when she shares expertise about the Midwest and Ohio through storytelling and her books.

Applications accepted for Share a Christmas

NEW PHILADELPHIA – The Tuscarawas County Council for Church and Community Share a Christmas application process is underway. Oct. 14 is the last day to submit applications, which are available in the local schools and libraries. They can be mailed or dropped off at the T4C office, 1458 Fifth St. A drop box is near the main entrance for after-hours drop off. No online applications will be accepted this year.

All toys will be prepackaged for the family unit. The WJER/Indian Valley FFA annual toy drive will be from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. Dec. 6. The toy drop-off is on the same day from 9 a.m. until noon at the New Towne Mall (Elder Beerman entrance). All toys should be new and unwrapped.

New Towne Mall will have a giving tree outside of Marshalls. Log onto newtownemall.com closer to the date for any updates to mall hours.

T4C will be accepting monetary donations to help fund the program. Monetary donations can be dropped off or mailed to the T4C office. Toys will be given to children up to 12 years old.

The Share a Christmas program originated in 1975 and assists families in the Tuscarawas County area during the holiday season with food, new clothing and toys.

Walk-in passport clinic is Saturday at library

NEW PHILADELPHIA − The Tuscarawas County Public Library System will host a walk-in passport clinic at the main library, from 10 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Saturday.

Participants must have all paperwork, forms, and photographs ready, along with a check or money order to pay the fees. Children applying for passports are required to be present with their parents.

‘The Foolers’ coming to Performing Arts Center

NEW PHILADELPHIA – Penn & Teller’s “The Foolers” will be presented at 7:30 p.m. Sept. 26, at the Performing Arts Center at Kent State University at Tuscarawas, 330 University Dr. NE.

Curated and endorsed by the celebrated duo Penn & Teller, "The Foolers" is an interactive live production that brings together four of the world’s best illusionists. The four featured illusionists are Alex Ramon, Jessica Jane Peterson, Matt Donnelly, and Vinny Grosso.

Tickets start at $38 and are on sale at the Performing Arts Center box office, 330-308-6400 or at www.kent.edu/tuscpac. The box office is open 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday. A limited number of VIP tickets that include a post-show photo with the magicians will also be available. Parking is free.

Leaders of Tomorrow call for speakers

NEW PHILADELPHIA – The 2024 annual Leaders of Tomorrow Summit will be held March 8, at the Kent State Tuscarawas Performing Arts Center. The committee is seeking people to inspire, motivate, mentor, and positively influence high school students with a message that will guide their leadership journey in the best direction.

Professionals in all fields and levels of leadership are encouraged to consider this opportunity to share their stories and to inspire others either through a TEDx-style talk for all summit attendees or through a breakout group workshop. Roast beef dinner helps fire department

SCIO – An all-you-can-eat roast beef dinner will be from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Sept. 24, at the Scio Fire Hall, 318 W. Main St. The price is $15 for adults and $8 for younger than 10. Proceeds benefit the Scio Volunteer Fire Department.

The arm-wrestling tournament winners were Pro- Right-Handed Christ Miller, Pro- Left-Handed Stacy James and Amateur Christ Miller.

Royalty crowned included Junior Prince Wyatt Brown, Junior Princess Victoria DeWalt, Princess Serenity Carmany and Queen Jessica Waid.

The5K Run & Kids Fun Run have more than 120 runners and the car show had 119 entries.

Fall Trivia Nights

DOVER – The Dover Public Library will host fall Trivia Nights on the second Wednesday of every month beginning at 6:30 p.m. in the Community Room. Teams of two to six players can compete.
