Deersville Community Theatre to present rock opera
DEERSVILLE – The Deersville Community Theatre, 208 Main St., will stage the rock opera “Victor: An Uncommon Opera” at 7:30 p.m. Oct. 5, 6 and 7, and 2 p.m. Oct. 8. It is the story of the creation of Frankenstein, written by local actor Jonathan Jurado. Tickets are available at https://tinyurl.com/56r5bc8d. Elliott Nugent program at Dover Public Library
DOVER – President of Visiting Librarian Service Tom Adamich will present “Dover’s Leading Man: Elliott Nugent” at 6:30 p.m. Monday in the Community Room of the Dover Public Library. Register at www.doverlibrary.org/events or call the library at 330-343-6123.
Nugent was born in Dover in 1896. He worked with Bob Hope, Betty Grable, and other famous stars of the day. He wrote the play “Male Animal” with Ohio native John Thurber.

Forum for Dover school board candidates
NEW PHILADELPHIA − A Meet the Candidate Forum for the Dover City School Board election will be at 7 p.m. Oct. 2, at the Elks Lodge 510. The Dover Education Association and Ohio Association of Public School Employees Local 392 are co-sponsoring this event so candidates can share their views about public education and answer questions from education employees, parents, and citizens. Sherrel Rieger, a retired teacher from Dover City Schools, will moderate the forum.
Chris Hart to share journey to recovery
DOVER – In recognition of National Recovery Month, living historian and storyteller Chris Hart will share his journey of addiction and recovery at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday in the Community Room of the Dover Public Library.
When his career as a practicing pharmacist ended, Hart developed a course on chemical dependency for health care professionals that he teaches at six universities in Ohio. This program touches not only on various aspects of the disease of chemical dependency, but on Hart’s spiritual journey.

East Central Ohio Forestry Association to meet
DOVER – The East Central Ohio Forestry Association meeting at 7 p.m. Oct. 4, at the Dover Public Library will feature Jordan Thompson, forester for Millwood Lumber in Gnadenhutten. He will discuss what he considers when preparing a quotation to buy timber which may be enlightening to some landowners.
The association is an organization for those interested in improving their woodlands and in forestry-related topics.
Author to talk about her book Thursday
DOVER – As part of the celebration of Hispanic Heritage Month, Dover Public Library will host local author Melissa Kay Herrera at 6:30 p.m. Thursday. Herrera, a native of Holmes County, is an author and poet. She is a columnist for the Holmes County Bargain Hunter.
Herrera will talk about her book “Toño Lives - Porque Domina Todo,” which relates the first-person account of physical loss, survival, and brutal abuse of a young boy as he searches for a place to call home. Micky Dolenz coming to the Performing Arts Center
NEW PHILADELPHIA – Micky Dolenz, ‘60s icon and former member of the Monkees band, will perform at the Performing Arts Center at Kent State University – Tuscarawas, 330 University Dr. NE, at 7:30 p.m. October 10

Bigfoot event at Pleasant Hill Lake Park
PERRYSVILLE – The second annual Bigfoot Basecamp Weekend will be Oct. 5-8 at Pleasant Hill Lake Park featuring Matt Moneymaker, founder and president of the Bigfoot Field Researchers Organization (BFRO) and co-host of "Finding Bigfoot'' on the Animal Planet channel.
The weekend will kick off with a VIP dinner and presentation by Moneymaker on Thursday, along with campfire BFRO speakers, activities for children, and a movie under the stars. Saturday’s activities will include a Community Town Hall with Moneymaker, BFRO investigator presentations, Bigfoot author book signings, guided pontoon tours, Bigfoot T-shirt tie dye and casting class.

Program on women in engineering
NEW PHILADELPHIA − Kent State University at Tuscarawas will host Introducing Women in Engineering for high school girls from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Oct. 13 in Founders Hall.
The Engineering Technology Department is dedicated to promoting girls in STEM careers. Students will learn about alternative energy, robotics, 3D modeling and microcontrollers and have lunch with an engineer from Intel. Registration is required by Friday.
