Fall festival, trunk or treat at church

DENNISON – Roxford Church will have a fall festival and trunk or treat beginning at 4 p.m. Saturday at the Family Life Center, 661 Roxford Church Road SE.

The event will include a children’s costume parade at 5 p.m., food, games, a bonfire, hayride, bounce house and story time. Decorate your car and pass out candy to children in costume. Bring a chair to set by the fire.

Reeves Museum to host Murder Mystery Dinner

DOVER − The Reeves Victorian Home & Carriage House Museum, 325 E. Iron Ave., will host its annual Murder Mystery Dinner at 6 p.m. Nov. 3 and 4.

The evening will begin with a short interactive scene followed by dinner. After dinner, guests will be able to ask questions to help determine the guilty party, and tables will put forth theories after the interrogations. The table with the best guess will be the winner. Catering will be provided by Kathy’s Catering.

Reeves Foundation grant deadline Nov. 15

DOVER − The next meeting of the Reeves Foundation Board of Trustees will be in December. Grant applications should be submitted by Nov. 15.

Local nonprofits that address the needs of the community are encouraged to contact the foundation at its Dover office for grant application information by email at office@reevesfound.org or by calling 330-364-4660. Requests of all sizes are considered but organizations must be 501(c)(3) certified. Emphasis is placed on capital-type expenditures rather than on operating funds.

Halloween parade Wednesday

MIDVALE − Midvale Lions will host its annual Halloween parade at 7 p.m. Wednesday. Lineup will begin at 6 p.m. behind Midvale School. There will be costume contests and refreshments at the football field afterward.

Eat out Wednesday, support the arts

NEW PHILADELPHIA − Tuscarawas Arts Partnership (TAP) and local restaurants are hosting Eat Your Art Out on Wednesday. The community is encouraged to support local restaurants throughout the day by dining in or taking out, and a portion of their purchase will support Tuscarawas Arts Partnership and its mission to cultivate and support the arts in Tuscarawas County.

Participating restaurants include Canal Street Diner in Bolivar, Daily Grind Cafe in New Philadelphia, Hog Heaven in New Philadelphia, The J-N-G Grill in New Philadelphia, Magic Mugs in Dover, Missions Cafe in Dover, and Pointe Dining in New Philadelphia.

To celebrate its fifth anniversary, anyone eating at one or multiple participating Eat Your Art Out restaurants Wednesday will have the opportunity to win a prize. Participants will find flyers at restaurants with a QR code or physical cards to enter into the giveaway. One person will win a $100 gift card for an Eat Your Art Out restaurant of their choice, and a pair of tickets to any show at The Little Theatre for its 2023-24 season. Sheriff appointed to state task force

NEW PHILADELPHIA − Tuscarawas County Sheriff Orvis Campbell will serve on a new state task force focusing on training to help law enforcement officers respond to incidents of violence and resisting arrest.

Ohio Attorney General Dave Yost announced Campbell’s appointment to the nine-member Future of Police Training Task Force. Yost expects the group to deliver recommendations by mid-January. The task force will be led by Ohio Peace Officer Training Academy Assistant Executive Director Thomas Quinlan, a former Columbus police chief who oversaw the Columbus Police Training Academy.

Company donates meat to food pantry

NEW PHILADELPHIA − CCU Coal and Construction, formerly Oxford Mining, recently participated in the Tuscarawas County Fair Junior Livestock auction where the company purchased two hogs from Brier Kollar and Easton Sanders. The combined auction price was more than $6,400 for the hogs.

The animals have been processed and the meat donated to the Food Pantry of Dover and New Philadelphia to help local families in need. CCU Coal and Construction has several mining operations in Tuscarawas County and counts the City of Dover as one of its customers.

Fire department sets fundraiser dinner

SCIO – The Scio Volunteer Fire Department will have a roast beef dinner from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Oct. 29 at the Scio Fire Hall, 318 W. Main St. All you can eat for $15 for adults, $8 for younger than 10. Eat in or carry out. Dinner benefits the fire department.

Church hosts fundraiser for Scout memberships

STRASBURG – St. John UCC will host a taco bar buffet fundraiser from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Oct. 29 at St. John United Church of Christ, 516 N. Wooster Ave. The cost is a donation.

Takeout will be available (one container per person). All proceeds will be used for annual membership fees of the Cub Scouts and Boy Scouts in Strasburg.

Zoar trick or treat set

ZOAR – Zoar Village’s trick or treat will be from 2 to 4 p.m. Oct. 29. Those who want to participate in the costume parade and contest should gather in the Zoar Garden at 3:30 p.m. Contest judging will occur at 3:45 p.m. No reservations are required.

Jazz concert Thursday

DOVER − First Moravian Church of Dover, 319 N. Walnut St., will host a jazz concert from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Thursday. The night will feature The Patrick Kerssen Trio and the Tusky Valley High School Jazz Players.

The evening of jazz music will support Sole Purpose, a youth-driven nonprofit group that puts shoes on kids’ feet, according to a news release.

Besides music, the evening includes a silent auction on five quilts and drawings for pairs of tickets for the Performing Arts Center show “Church Basement Ladies: Away in the Basement.” Donations will be accepted for shoes for K-8th grade for Share-A-Christmas. Trunk or treat event at church

DOVER − The community is invited to a free trunk or treat event from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Oct. 22, at Dover First United Methodist Church parking lot, pavilion and Fellowship Hall, 1725 N. Wooster Ave. Crafts, cookies, hot chocolate and apple cider will be available. In case of inclement weather, trunk or treat will be held indoors.

Card party at church Monday

NEW PHILADELPHIA − Schoenbrunn Community Moravian Church, 2200 E. High St., will have a card party from 6 to 9 p.m. Monday. Admission is $10 and includes a meal.
