Gospel trio to perform free concert

BOLIVAR – Nashville-based gospel trio New Legacy Project will perform a free concert at 7 p.m. Monday at St. Paul Lutheran Church, 156 Poplar St.

Supporting Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library

DOVER – The Dover Exchange Club’s Children's Foundation is partnering with the United Way of Tuscarawas County to support the Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library. The Imagination Library is a program initiated by Dolly Parton to foster childhood literacy.

The program is designed to provide books to children from birth to their fifth birthday. Each month, an age-appropriate book is mailed to the child from the Dolly Parton Imagination Library in Tennessee at no cost to the recipient. The child must be younger than 5 to enroll in the program.

The Dover Exchange Club initially funded books for one full year for up to 100 children in Tuscarawas County. The Dover Exchange Club encourages parents of newborns to 5-year-old children to enroll them in the Dolly Parton Imagination Library by visiting OhioImaginationLibrary.org. Enrollment is free and easy.

For those without internet access, contact the United Way at 330-343-7772 to request an enrollment form.

Chess and Cubers clubs meet at the library

DOVER − The Dover Public Library hosts the Chess Club and the Cubers Club. The Chess Club meets every Tuesday at 4 p.m. in the boardroom at the library. Members of the club invite anyone who is interested to join them for a friendly game of chess. No registration is necessary. Participants are asked to bring their own chess boards.

The Cubers Club meets at 6 p.m. the first Thursday of every month in the boardroom for people of all ages who want to hone their skills with Rubik’s Cube by practicing with fellow enthusiasts. No registration is necessary.

Civil War Round Table to meet Thursday

DOVER − The Tuscarawas Valley Civil War Round Table will meet at 6:30 p.m. Thursday in the Community Room at the Dover Public Library, 525 N. Walnut St. The featured speaker will be Dr. Joseph Beilein, scholar on Dover native and Confederate guerilla William Clarke Quantrill. Beilein will discuss his new book, "A Man by Any Other Name: William Clarke Quantrill and the Search for American Manhood." A book signing will follow the program, which is free and open to all. Fawcett to share recipes and memories

DOVER − Recently retired Dover Public Library librarian Paula Fawcett will share her love of cooking and baking at 10 a.m. Saturday in the Community Room at the Dover Public Library. She will bring samples of her favorite recipes, talk about the memories behind the recipes and display her vintage aprons and cookbooks. Women in Business Expo is Friday

NEW PHILADELPHIA – The Women in Business Expo will be 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Friday, at the Performing Arts Center at Kent State University Tuscarawas. The event includes exhibitors' prizes, food samplings, and ways to connect with women in business.

Volunteer Connect Fair is Wednesday

NEW PHILADELPHIA − Volunteer Leaders in Action will host a Volunteer Connect Fair from 3:30 to 5:30 p.m. Wednesday in the Joe Carlisle Café at Buckeye Career Center, 545 University Dr. NE.

Local PERI chapter schedules speakers

NEW PHILADELPHIA − The Tuscarawas County Public Employee Retirees, Inc. Chapter has scheduled guest speakers PERI Chairman Richard Ross for Wednesday and PERI Executive Director Leslie Garcia for Nov. 8. All Tuscarawas County PERI members as well as all OPERS retirees can attend the chapter luncheon meetings the second Wednesday of each month at Ricardo's Banquet Hall, 115 Front St. SW.

Barbecue, craft show and swap meet

Dotts to serve on Teen Ambassador Board

UHRICHSVILLE – Claymont High School senior Gemma Dotts was selected to serve on the 2023-24 Attorney General Teen Ambassador Board. The mission of the Teen Ambassador Board is to provide Ohio’s future leaders with an inside look at Ohio law and government. The board consists of high school students from around the state. Those selected serve a one-year term and convene twice in Columbus during their tenure.

Members will advise the office on issues relating to teens and work with their peers to develop solutions to those issues. Students will be placed into small groups, advised by an Assistant Attorney General. Members will attend presentations on a wide variety of topics. Students also can meet with Ohio Attorney General Dave Yost, attend events around the state throughout the year, visit the Columbus and regional offices, interact with Assistant Attorneys General, and hear from various elected officials.

Ghost Tours on Fridays and Saturdays

ZOAR − Historic Zoar Village will host its annual Ghost Tours of Zoar Friday and Saturday and Oct. 20-21 and Oct. 28-29. These hour-long lantern-light walking tours start at 6:30 p.m. at the Zoar Store and depart every 15 minutes, with the last tour starting at 8:45 p.m. This event is recommended for adults and children older than 12.

Sock donations accepted at high school

DOVER − Dover High School's Teen Leadership Corps' Socktober fundraiser for Tuscarawas County Friends of the Homeless continues until Oct. 13. Donations of clean, unused socks may be placed in the bin located in front of Dover High School, 520 N. Walnut St.
