Glow-in-the-dark dodgeball Friday and Saturday

DENNISON − Roxford Family Life Center, 661 Roxford Church Road SE, will host glow-in-the-dark dodgeball Friday and Saturday. Adult dodgeball is at 6 p.m. Friday. Stop in early to register. Cost is $15.

Youth glow-in-the-dark dodgeball will begin at 6 p.m. Saturday. Cost is $5. Stop in early to register. Sixth to eighth grade will play from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Ninth to 12th grade will play from 8 to 9:30 p.m.

Participants for all glow-in-the-dark dodgeball games should wear a white or neon-colored shirts. The concession stand will be open.

The event is sponsored by Impact Youth Group.

Dover Library’s magazine Tapestries of Tuscarawas County taking submissions

DOVER − The Dover Public Library’s literary magazine, Tapestries of Tuscarawas County, is seeking submissions for its sixth volume. The literary magazine encompasses life in Tuscarawas County and aims to preserve the culture of the county as a part of the library’s historical initiative, according to a news release. The magazine is open to submissions of stories, poetry, art and photography from anyone with connections to Tuscarawas County. Send in memories of life in Tuscarawas County or art and photography that have a connection to the community.

The deadline to submit a piece for the new edition of Tapestries of Tuscarawas County is Nov. 30. The library will offer a cash prize in each of the following categories: photography/art, poetry, and written story.

A release ceremony will be held at the library to celebrate the magazine, and contributors will be given a free copy of the book, as well as an opportunity to read excerpts from their work. Copies will be available to the public at the Dover Public Library and other local libraries and historical societies.

Dinner and tree lighting at community center

MINERAL CITY − Warren Township Community Center, 3986 New Cumberland Road NE, will have a community Thanksgiving dinner from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday, with the tree lighting at 5:30 p.m. Donations from this event go directly to assisting area families and remembering widows this Christmas season, with the center's Reason for the Season Campaign.

Downtown lighting ceremony is Friday

NEW PHILADELPHIA − The annual downtown lighting ceremony will begin at 6:45 p.m. Friday at the gazebo quadrant of the square. There will be music and entertainment, and guests can enjoy free cookies and hot cocoa, face painting, and a visit with Santa Claus.

The Christmas tree is a 20-foot traditional branch tree equipped with Twinkly Pro lighting technology, boasting more 12,000 LED capsules, offering programmable effects, animations, and synchronization to music. This tree will offer a 15-minute musical light show hourly starting at dusk.

An ornament craft with the Grinch will be held from 4:40 to 6:30, at Towne Center Parties at New Towne Mall. Space is limited and registration is required. The South Side of New Philadelphia will have Christmas decorations at Lockport Square across from the BellStores at 701 South Broadway. The decorations will be lit beginning Friday, in conjunction with the lighting ceremony downtown.

Program will teach the warning signs of risky behaviors in youth

NEW PHILADELPHIA − Empower Tusc will host an educational program for parents and community members at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday at the Tuscarawas County Public Library System’s Main Library, 121 Fair Ave. NW.

Empower Tusc member Jodi Salvo will present an informative talk on the warning signs of risky behavior in youth and provide information on what parents need to know about substance abuse, as well as tips for spotting use and abuse and how to discuss these topics with their children and loved ones.

Pick up turkey supper at church

PORT WASHINGTON − St. Paul's United Church of Christ, at the corner of High and Arch Streets, will hold its annual turkey supper from 4 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, with curbside pickup only. The menu is slow-roasted turkey, dressing, mashed potatoes and gravy, noodles, green beans, roll and butter, dessert. The cost is $15 for adults, $7 for children 12 and younger.

Fish fry at fire department Friday

Southern gospel group at Sherrodsville church Sunday

SHERRODSVILLE − The Sherrodsville Wesleyan Church, 73 N. Church St., will host a concert with the southern gospel group the Kentucky Mountain Bible College trio Rejoice at 10:30 a.m. Sunday. All are invited.

Dover High grad receives OSU Distinguished Alumni Award

Anne Fondriest Gentry, a 1974 graduate of Dover High School, recently received the College of Pharmacy Distinguished Alumni Award from the Ohio State University at the annual awards banquet.

She graduated from Ohio State in 1980 with a bachelor’s degree in pharmacy and from Idaho State University with a PharmD degree in 1995. Her career has encompassed pharmacy education, drug information, medical communications, public policy and entrepreneurship.
