Home Energy Assistance Winter Crisis Program ends March 30

The Ohio Department of Development and HARCATUS Tri-County Community Action Organization Inc. helps income-eligible Ohioans stay warm during the cold winter months. The Home Energy Assistance Winter Crisis Program provides eligible Ohioans assistance paying a utility or bulk fuel bill or assistance paying for heating system repairs. The program started Nov. 1 and will end March 30.

Fun for children at Dover library

DOVER − The Children's Department at Dover Public Library, 525 Walnut St., will celebrate Dr. Seuss with a party at 11 a.m. Saturday with a fun Seussical story, crafts and snacks. Registration is required; visit www.doverlibrary.org or call 330-343-6123.

Storytimes at 10 a.m. and 1 p.m. Wednesdays will have a theme during March. This week will be Wacky Wednesday, where kids can dress in crazy mismatched clothes. March 8 will be Pajama Day, and kids can wear pajamas and bring along a favorite stuffy or blanket. On March 15, children can dress as their favorite Dr. Seuss character. March 22 will be Crazy Sock Day. The theme for March 29 is Cat in the Hat, and kids can wear a fun hat. On March 25, there will be a special 11 a.m. storytime on maple syrup with fun activities and snacks.

Appalachian Ohio offering grants

NELSONVILLE – The Foundation for Appalachian Ohio is accepting grant applications through March 21 for the Donald R. Myers Legacy Fund to Support Partnership in Appalachian Ohio.

The Donald R. Myers Legacy Fund was created to support Appalachian Ohio’s nonprofit and public organizations in projects and activities that improve quality of life, with an emphasis on education, regional networking, support for community leaders, and fulfillment of basic needs.

Open to organizations in Appalachian Ohio’s 32 counties, 2023 grant applications are available at www.AppalachianOhio.org/Myers and must be submitted by March 21. Funding requests should not exceed $900.

Tuscarawas County Literacy Coalition offers scholarship

NEW PHILADELPHIA – The Tuscarawas County Literacy Coalition is offering two $500 scholarships to eligible high school seniors who reside in Tuscarawas County or are enrolled in a Tuscarawas County high school or Tuscarawas County homeschooling network and plan to continue their studies at an accredited post-secondary institution in any course of study.

The scholarship selection is based on essay response, school involvement, extracurricular and community-based activities, and service to the community. Students must submit a completed scholarship application form and a 300-500 word typed essay response to the question: How have you or how would you improve literacy in your community? They should also include two letters of recommendation.

Mail scholarship applications to Tuscarawas County Literacy Coalition, PO Box 1173, New Philadelphia, OH 44663. Applications must be postmarked by March 31, or emailed by that date to TuscarawasLiteracy@gmail.com with the subject line “TCLC Scholarship.”

‘The Voice’ winners Girl Named Tom to perform

Kent State Tuscarawas hosts Parent Night

NEW PHILADELPHIA – Kent State Tuscarawas will host Parent Night from 6 to 7 p.m. March 7 at the Science and Advanced Technology Center.

Parents of students in middle and high school are invited to the informational session to ask questions about college. Admissions experts will discuss tips for choosing and applying to colleges. Information will be shared about when and how to register for ACT testing. Financial aid specialists will be available to share the basics of applying for financial aid and scholarships.

In addition, information will be provided about programs that allow students to earn college credit while still in high school, such as AP, College Credit Plus and Dual Credit. Kindergarten registration begins soon

STRASBURG – Strasburg kindergarten registration packets will be available in the elementary office beginning Wednesday.

Packets can be picked up from 8 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Monday to Friday at the school or at the Strasburg Library. Once the packets are picked up, make an appointment by contacting Natasha Demuth, elementary school secretary, or call the office at 330-878-6503, ext. 3, or email natasha.demuth@strasburgtigers.org with uestions or to schedule a registration appointment.

Kindergarten registration will be held April 26 and 27. Students must be 5 years old on or before Aug. 1, 2023. to enroll in kindergarten.

Boy Scout spaghetti dinner fundraiser March 5

STRASBURG – Strasburg Boy Scout Troop 72 will hold a spaghetti dinner from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. March 5 at St. John United Church of Christ, 516 N. Wooster Ave. Meals are available by drive-thru only and cost is a donation. The meal includes spaghetti and meatballs, salad, bread, and dessert.

The meal is open to the public with curbside service only in parking lot of the church. The church social hall will be closed. All proceeds benefit the Boy Scouts program in Strasburg. Direct donations or questions to Michele Randolph at 330-878-5393.

Reservation deadline is Friday for March 9 senior luncheon

STRASBURG – The monthly senior luncheon will be held at noon March 9 in St. John United Church of Christ, 516 N. Wooster Ave.

Percy Garner, director of the Rainbow Connection, will be the guest speaker. He also played for the Cleveland Guardians. The Tuscarawas County Senior Center will provide the Swiss steak lunch. Cost is $6. Deadline for reservations is Friday; call the church at 330-878-5113.
