Tuscarawas County sees 13 more COVID deaths, 502 new cases, in week ending Friday

The Tuscarawas County Health Department reported 502 new cases of COVID-19 in the seven-day period ending Friday, about half the number of cases logged in the previous week.

The Ohio Department of Health reported 13 additional COVID-19 related deaths in Tuscarawas County residents since Jan. 21, bringing the county's cumulative COVID-19 related deaths to 441 people.

Since Jan. 21, 174 Tuscarawas County residents have chosen to start the COVID-19 vaccine process, which has been completed by 42.86% of the county's population.

The county has recorded a total of 19,920 cases as of Friday, when 2,131 cases were active. Tuscarawas County has 93,263 residents, according to the U.S. Census.

The county's death rate among COVID cases was 2.2% as of Friday, compared to 1.3% in Ohio, 1.2% in the country and 1.5% globally.
