Tuscarawas Village Council

KEY ACTION Mayor Dana Moore introduced Bill Glick, a prospective water and wastewater operator. Glick told council that he is currently a contractor but has worked in water and sewer operations since 1980. He has Class 3 Licenses in each and is interested in working full time. Mayor Moore and Administrator DJ Meek will meet with Glick next week to view the water and wastewater plants.

DISCUSSION: Discussed placing a police levy on the ballot instead of an income tax levy. Solicitor JJ Ong said he will contact the County Auditor's office for the amounts the different millage would generate.

OTHER ACTION

  • A motion to postpone the third reading of a pair of ordinances until all of council is present for discussion failed after the vote ended in a tie and Mayor Moore broke the tie with a "no" vote. Mayor More then went on to give the third reading on those ordinances which amend pay ordinances for employees of the village and the elected position of Mayor respectively.

  • One ordinance passed unanimously. The legislature amends a portion of an ordinance , which was passed Nov. 19, 2015, regarding the annual income tax rate to be levied on village residents. This was passed by emergency measure.

  • Agreed to apply to the County for American Rescue Plan Act funds in the amount of $845,779, for the electrical work for the water building and wastewater treatment plant upgrades.

  • Agreed to the estimate of $600 by Joe Krocker, to have the zoning ordinance retyped with all amendments incorporated.

  • A clean up notice was sent to a Cherry Street resident to clean up their yard and dispose of a junk vehicle. Additional notices will be going out soon.

  • The village has received another $90,000 from ODOT's Safe Routes to School for the Sidewalk Project.

  • Mayor Moore reported that he has appointed Marc Lautenschleger as acting Police Chief while Jim Goodall is dealing with health issues.

  • A sewer line was cleaned at the end of Mill Street.

  • A new curb box was installed at 243 N Main due to a lack of water pressure.

  • Councilman and Tusky Days Festival Chairman Matt Ritenour commended the committee and volunteers in town for making the Tusky Days Festival a success. Mayor Moore and council offered their thanks as well to the committee and village employees for their hard work. A collection box was set up at the festival for donations towards new lighted Christmas decorations which took in several hundred dollars, Ritenour noted. Some organizations want to help with fundraisers for the cause, as well.

  • The property at 346 N Main, which has the burned home on it, has supposedly been sold according to Solicitor JJ Ong. Notices that were sent to the prior owner will transfer to the new owner.
