Tuscarora beach closed again

Jul. 6—The beach at Tuscarora State Park is closed to swimming for the second time within a month.

On Wednesday, The Pennsylvania Department of Conservation and Natural Resources issued a statement prohibiting swimming until further notice.

According to officials, testing samples showed higher than acceptable levels of E. coli bacteria and, as a precaution, the beach will remain closed until acceptable water sample results are received.

The DCNR has posted signs at the beach.

Other activities at Tuscarora State Park, such as camping, picnicking, hiking and fishing are proceeding as usual and nearby Locust Lake remains open for swimming.

On June 15, the beach at Tuscarora was closed due to high algae content. It was reopened after three days.

Updated information on the beach closure is available at the alerts section of the park websites at www.dcnr.pa.gov/State Parks/FindAPark/TuscaroraState Park/Pages/default. aspx
