Tuscora Stamp Club show Saturday

NEW PHILADELPHIA − Tuscora Stamp Club will hold its annual Tuscopex show from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday Sept. 24 at the Tuscora Park Pavilion.

An auction will be at 4 p.m. Stamp dealers, offering both individual stamps and lots, will be available throughout the day for those looking to fill missing items in their collections.

Several extensive exhibits will feature different subjects commemorated in stamps. Jack Perry, of Canton, will present U.S. Rigid Airship History in Postal Covers, Memorabilia and Photos. Ed Waters, of Akron will show his collection of stamp meter images, such as the Pitney Bowes postage machine used by businesses, and labels with ads made by the machines. Dominick Gangale will display American Scenic Landscape Airmail sheets. The first commercial airmail flight in the United States occurred in 1918. The 5 cent stamp issued in 1928 depicted the beacon light tower at the emergency airmail landing field near Sherman, Wyoming.

The theme of this year’s Tuscopex is National Parks. The Smoky Mountains, Yellowstone and the Grand Tetons will be featured. Each registered visitor will receive a commemorative album with 16 panels, including a stamp and photos from each national park.

Members contribute individual stamps and lots for the auction. It is a way for collectors to easily add to their own albums. Parking is free, and the pavilion is handicap assessable. Lunch will be available.

The club meets twice a month, the first Wednesday and third Tuesday, at Emmanuel Lutheran Church in New Philadelphia at 7 p.m. There is an open membership policy, oriented toward family participation, and new members are welcome.

The first Tuscopex was held in 1962 at the Dover Masonic Temple.
