TUSCARAWAS — The Paddle Auction at the Tusky Days Festival brought in $5,600, with 12 paddles receiving bids.

"Lets get those wallets out, get those checkbooks out and lets get this thing started," said Auctioneer Bob Hall, who is with Cronebaugh Auctions.

Hall donates his talents each year to try and get the most out of each bidder. Featured on this year's paddle was Stemple's Service Station and Blacksmith Shop. The owner was Sherman Stemple, the great-grandfather of Mayor Dana Moore. Following Stemple's death, the shop was run by his daughter and son-in-law, Pete and Ruth Schnieder, from 1946 to about 1968. The paddles were created by the Indian Valley Woodworking shop and etched by the Indian Valley Robotics Class.

"We offer marriage counseling on the side," joked Hall, prior to the start of the event. He explained that if a couple can't agree whether or not to bid on an item, he always goes with the "yes," and then offers the service.
