KEY ACTION The board approved the transfer of Andrea Clements, from pre-kindergarten-4 Elementary Principal to Intermediate Principal, grades 2-4 located at Bolivar.

DISCUSSION: The board also approved a one-year Administrator Limited contract to Corey Street, Primary Principal at Mineral City, effective Aug 1, 2022 to July 31, 2023. The board rescinded the stipend for Clements of $7,500 approved at the May meeting and approved a stipend for Clement, pre-kindergarten-4 curriculum coordinator for $7,500.

In another matter, Board Member Sally Green has been nominated as the Ohio School Boards Association 2023 president -elect. Green will become the OSBA president in 2024 following her term as president-elect. Green is in her 17th year serving on the Tuscarawas Valley Local School District Board of Education ,was first elected in Nov. 2005. She currently serves as president of the OSBA’s Northeast Region and was president and vice president of her local board in 2020. In 2020 Green was recognized as an OSBA Master Board Member, a lifetime distinction.

“I am passionate about quality education for all students. Education can and does change the trajectory of a student’s life. The OSBA does an excellent job providing educational excellence for school board members, and it is an honor to be a part of the organization,” Green said.

OTHER ACTION

  • Approved an updated service agreement with the East Central Ohio Educational Service Center (ECOESC) at an approximated cost of $790,000 for all services.

  • Issued one-year supplemental coaching contracts to certified employees Chase Cooper, John Blile, Ryan Osman, all assistant football, Christian Wertz, middle school football.

  • Accepted the resignation of Richard Archer, bus driver, for retirement.

  • Approved a two-year contract for classified employees; Chad Gintz and Harley Carlile.

  • Issued a one-year contract to Donald Walls, head mechanic, pending verifications of all credentials.

  • Granted one-year supplemental coaching contracts to classified employees; Cody Hodge, and Jason Johnson, middle school football; Heather Hayhurst, and Megan Stotzer, middle school volleyball.

  • Authorized Superintendent Dr. Derek Varansky to carry out the following roles and responsibilities for District Compliance Officer, District Civil Rights Coordinator, District Title IX Coordinator, and the Board designee to hear appeals for student suspensions.

  • Accepted donations of $5,000 from Reeves Foundation for Project Lead the Way and $1,500 from Lockport Brewery, Affordable Christmas.

  • Approved a list of 30 substitute employees for the 2022-23 school year.

  • Adopted a resolution declaring transportation impractical for two students and offer payment in lieu of transportation.

  • Approved the 2022-23 bus driver and transportation handbook and bus routes on file in the transportation office and subject to modification.

  • Issued a $500 stipend to Mike Recktenwalt for the district courier service.

  • Set three smart goals from 2022-25. They are Increase by ten percent, the number of students reporting that have an adult at school they can turn for support; close the learning gap for students in subgroup populations by 15 points as measured by the Gap Closing indicator on the district report card and increase the district’s performance index score by 15 points to meet or exceed a score of 105 as measured by the district report card.

  • A resolution was passed nominating Amy Burrier, board president, for the Ohio School Boards Association Recognition Award.

  • The board received copies of the 2022-23 District Master Plan and District Connect information.

  • The annual Family Fun event will be held at Atwood Lake Park from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Sept. 17. There will be lunch, fishing, cornhole, archery, birdie golf, outdoor Jenga, smores and a ride on the Atwood Lake Queen. There is no charge for the event.
