Tusky Valley, West Holmes on top at Division II district track and field meet

The Tusky Valley girls and host West Holmes boys track and field teams led the way as the Division II East district meet concluded at Knights Stadium in Millersburg on Saturday.

The top four finishers in each event advanced to the regional at Southeastern High School in Chillicothe next week.

Tusky Valley, led by senior Hannah Wyler, piled up 124 points to West Holmes' 114 to claim the girls crown for a second straight season.

The Trojans qualified in 14 events during the two-day event that began on Thursday.

Minerva (3rd, 93), Claymont (4th, 66), Beaver Local (5th, 61), Indian Valley (6th, 46.5), Carrollton (7tth, 46) and Sandy Valley (8th, 42) also scored 40 points or better.

The West Holmes boys topped Garaway 92-79 for the boys championship.

Beaver Local (3rd, 74), Claymont (4th, 68.5), Indian Valley (5th, 68) and Minerva (6th, 60) also tallied 60 points or better.

Wyler won the girls 800 meters in 2 minutes, 20.92 seconds, 1600 with a 5:07.68 and 3200 in 11:49.10, and was the lead-off runner on the winning 4x400 relay (4:12.44).

Following Wyler in the 800 were Carrollton's Josie Burgett (3rd, 2:24.75) and West Holmes' Noelle Smith (2:26.93). In the 1600, Sandy Valley's Casey Russell (4th, 5:37.94) also moved on to the regional as did West Holmes' Lexy Starner (3rd, 12:19.14) in the 3200.

Tusky Valley's Ella McElwee won the girls 400 in 1:01.19. Claymont's Averi Wallace (2nd, 1:01.69), Harrison Central's Nadia Tweedy (3rd. 1:02.90) and Indian Valley's Alisha Shaw (4th, 1:02.93) also advanced to the regional.

Joining Wyler on the winning 4x400 relay were Cara Pipitone, Leah Bourquin and McElwee. Sandy Valley's Kaydence Hoover, Alaina Heller, Casey Russell and Lexi Tucci were second (4:15.43) and Indian Valley's Micayela Plants, Rylee Raymond, Brooklyn Myers and Alisha Shaw were third (4:20.38).

The Tusky Valley girls 4x400 relay of Pipitone, Sally Ray, Bourquin and Emma Bender won with a 52.65. Claymont's foursome of Makyah Maple, Kailey Watkins and Wallace were second (52.94) and River View's Cortney Bookless, Ashlyn Tumblin, Krysten Smalley and Alyssa Fox were third (53.52), whiile Carrollton's Elizabeth Potts, Sophia Glass, Bri Shockey and Alicia Lebbano were fourth (53.83).

Tusky Valley's 4x200 relay of Bender, Pipitone, Bourquin and McElwee won with a 1:49.49. Carrollton's Elizabeth Potts, Elizabeth Funkhouser, Bri Shockey and Josie Burgett were second (1:51.08) and Claymont's Maple, Alexa Brick, Natalie Kinsey and Wallace were third (1:53.53).

Tusky Valley's Bender was second in the girls 100 hurdles (16.58) and West Holmes Cierra Miller was fourth (17.88).

West Holmes Jasmine Giauque won the girls 100 in 13.3 and was second in the 200 (26.34).

West Holmes Amy Hughes won the girls discus with a 119-11. Tusky Valley's Brook Stookey was second (117-00) and Claymont's Adrianna Terakedis took third (102-09).

River View's Bookless (2nd, 13.35), Sandy Valley's Heller (3rd, 13.54) and Claymont's Maple (13.67) followed in the 100. Tusky Valley's McElwee (3rd, 27.95) followed in the 200.

Carrollton's Funkhouser was second in the girls 300 hurdles (49.25) followed by West Holmes Miller (3rd, 50.64) and Bender (4th, 50.74).

Claymont's Maple was fourth in the long jump (16-06.75).

West Holmes Kyle Maltarich won the boys high jump with a 6-2 and teammate Zander Shultz was second at 6-1 to help lead the Knights to the crown, while Claymont's Grayden Mooneyham took third with a 6-0.

West Holmes Zeke Galbraith was second in the boys 3200 (10:23.49) and River View's Hunter Miller was fourth (10:54.36).

Garaway's Brendan Chapman won the boys 400 in 50.69, while Coshocton's Korbyn Hayley (2nd, 50.97) and Indian Valley's Max Steed (4th, 52.27) also advanced to Chillicothe.

Garaway's Quinten Schwartz was second in the boys 800 (1:59.82) followed by River View's Sam Adams (3rd, 2:01.14) and teammate Javin Robinson (2:03.82).

Garaway's Bobby Palmer took second in the boys 1600 (4:36.07) followed by River View's Adams (3rd, 4:36.98) and West Holmes Galbraith (4th, 4:39.44).

Ridgewood's Xavier Lamneck won the boys 300 hurdles in 40.86 followed by Claymont's Mooneyham who was second (41.41) and Garaway's Ty Winters who was third (41.29)

The Ridgewood boys 4x400 foursome of Lamneck, Kaleb Schrock, Kigenn Millender and Dalton Patterson claimed the title in 3:30.25. Garaway's Schwartz, Palmer, J.D. Young and Chapman were second (3:35.05) and River View's Laired Williamson, Zachariah Phillips, Robinson and Adams placed third (3:35.98).

The Ridgewood 4x200 relay of Lamneck, Kigenn Millender, Kaleb Schrock and Dalton Patterson were second (1:31.78) and Claymont's Alec Terakedis, Killian Hoefels, Keaton Host and Matt Langdon were third (1:32.81) and Indian Valley's foursome of Isaac Klaserner, Remmington Myers, Owen Fockler and Benaiah Klaserner were fourth (1:35.71).

Claymont's Terakedis was second in the boys 100 (11.42) and Coshocton's Haley was fourth (11.75).

Carrollton's Nathan Baker took second in the boys 200 (22.63) followed by Terakedis (3rd, 23.35) and Haley (4th, 23.640.

Claymont's Mooneyham came in second in the boys 110 hurdles (15.33) with Indian Valley's Kolton Thomas (3rd, 16.32) and Garaway's Miller (4th, 16.43) also moving on to Regional action.

The Claymont boys 4x100 relay of Terakedis, Mac McCluskey, Killian Hoefels and Keaton Host were second (44.24). West Holmes Logan Zollars, Maltarich, Sawyer Pritt and Zander Shultz were third (44.80) and Carrollton's Brock Smith, Zach Martin, Austin Colletti and Baker were fourth (45.07).

Harrison Central's Hunter Boals claimed the boys shot put title with a school-record throw of 46-11 and West Holmes Brock Zimmerly was second (45-11), while Garaway's Braden Adams (3rd, 44-04.75) and Tate Amicone (4th, 44-0) also advanced to Chillicothe.

Division II at Salem

Fairless Luke Yoder won the boys 100 and 200 and was on two regional advancing relay teams and Brody Pumneo set a school and meet record in the boys 800 as the Falcons participated in the Division II Northeast district meet at Salem.

The top four placers in each event advanced to the regional at Austintown Fitch next week.

Yoder claimed the 100 in 10.99 and 200 in 22.5, both personal bests.

He anchored the boys 4x200 team with Brandt Marchand, Carson Colucci and Tayler Buttermore who finished second in 1:31.29 and did the same in the boys 4x100 along with Gavin Conley, Buttermore and Kirby as they were fourth with a 44.62.

As a team, Fairless was third with 83 points. Salem won the meet with 112.5 points and Akron St. Vincent-St. Mary was one point ahead of the Falcons with 84.

Pumneo was the district champion in the boys 800 with a meet record time of 1:54.94. He broke the mark set last year by Michael Hvizdos of South Range (1:55.71).

The boys 4x400 foursome of Marchand, Kirby, Colucci and Pumneo finished third in 3:30.54.

Hunter Campbell finished third in the boys high jump with a 6-foot effort, while Kamryn Kondrach was fourth in the girls 300 hurdles with a 48.14.

Zoey Steele won the girls high jump with a 4-10 on Thursday and the boys 4x800 team of Eric Ruegg, Allen Harrison Joseph Slatzer and Pumneo finished fourth with an 8:26.38.
