This thought must have popped into the head of NBC Sports broadcaster Jason Garrett: “Gee, fans in Kansas City certainly are friendly.”
Garrett worked as the game analyst for Peacock’s coverage of Saturday night’s AFC Wild Card game at GEHA Field at Arrowhead Stadium. During a break in the action of the Chiefs’ 26-7 win over the Dolphins, broadcast partner Mike Tirico noted where their broadcast booth was located.
It was directly above the suite where superstar singer Taylor Swift, who is dating Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce, was watching the game with Donna Kelce and Brittany Mahomes.
“The last quarter and a half,” Tirico said during the broadcast, “there have been people (looking) up here, and I’m like, ‘Man, they must love Jason Garrett.’ Everybody’s pointing their camera up to our booth to take a picture of Jason. And then 10 minutes ago, I was like, ‘Hey dummy they’re taking a picture of Taylor.’”
Garrett said: “The worst part is I’ve been waving the whole time.”
Awful Announcing shared a clip of that moment.

Garrett, the former Dallas Cowboys coach, was on “Good Morning Football” on the NFL Network on Thursday and confirmed he really was waving to those fans.
“I didn’t realize where she was until Mike said that during the telecast. He’s right, I mean there were people kind of looking up at us and you know we’re waving back. And finally he revealed the whole thing to us,” Garrett said.
“It’s an amazing story. Travis and Taylor together and how she’s been embraced and all of that. I wasn’t quite sure where she was. There was that one shot they had where she was looking out the window and it really was like a Taylor Swift video. It’s quite a phenomenon. There’s no question about that.”
